The South Shore Folk Music Club (SSFMC), which is in its 46th year, presents an ‘All Open Mic Night ’ Saturday September 28, 2024 at First Parish Duxbury! We had so much fun last season that we’re doing it again! Doors open and sign-ups begin at 630p, show starts at 7p.m. You can sing, do spoken word, prose, poetry, comedy, performance art, original or not, all genres – not just folk! The North Reading Community Coffeehouse (NRCC) is thrilled to welcome back Rupert Wates.
With Covid hopefully in the read-view mirror, touring is slowly returning to some level of normal and Rupert is back out on the road touring. Over the past couple of years, Rupert has released several highly acclaimed CDs. – ‘Elegies’ (2023), ‘Instrumental’ (2023), ‘For The People’ (2022) and ‘Lamentations’ (2020). The NRCC is proud to be able to bring Rupert back to North Reading. We hope you will join us in welcoming this world class musician.
Opening for Rupert is one of the finest singer-songwriters we have met in our virtual world, Dave Mason. We are very much looking forward to meeting this wonderful performer in person for the first time as he comes to us from Scotland. Dave writes about places he has seen, people he has met as well as issues he feels need highlighting. Dave has played in folk clubs across the whole of Scotland, England, Wales, the US and South Africa. He is also a plays and writes music for bagpipes!
The concert is free, but there will be a “Suggested Donation” of $20 if you are in a position to do so. The important thing is join us if you can and do what we can to help keep live music alive!

The Open Book Coffeehouse continues its series of live monthly concerts on Saturday evening, May 18, featuring acoustic artist David Singley. The coffeehouse is located at the Canton Public Library, 786 Washington Street, Canton. Doors open at 6:45 PM; music starts at 7:30 PM. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students of any age. Tickets are available that evening on a first come, first serve basis. (cash or checks).
Born and raised in rural central Illinois, David Singley is a singer-songwriter-guitarist living in Saint Paul, Minnesota, whose music is born of the street, the country, and the academy. An experienced veteran with decades of backing world-class artists and performers, he has recently joined the “Great Resignation” and set his sights on his own artistic pursuits. His music evokes the golden era of the singer-songwriter: the late ’60s and early-to-mid ’70s; with its chameleonic stylistic twists and turns, as well as its memorable melodies and insightful, poetic lyrics. His music expresses a point of view that is at once highly personal and triumphantly global. His voice evokes traces of many of his influences: James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, Jackson Browne, Dan Fogelberg, and many others. His guitar playing is at once highly focused and passionate, impressive yet always absolutely appropriate to the song at hand.

The Open Book Coffeehouse is located in the community room of the Canton Public Library at 786 Washington Street, Canton, and is made possible by the Friends of the Library. Mike Laureanno is a passionate performer whose songs are visceral and evocative. He is proud of his roots and much of his songwriting deals with his gritty blue-collar hometown of Fall River MA and the lives of his family and friends. Mike is the winner of the 2016 Woody Guthrie songwriting competition and he was a Kerrville TX New Folk finalist! Be prepared for an intimate evening of music with Mike Laureanno.
Bob Uvello, over a decades long musical career, has performed throughout the US, Canada and Europe. His 1979 recording, High Chaparral, was awarded a Gold Record in Sweden. Bob’s vocals cover both the tenor and baritone ranges, accompanied by his unique guitar style. Since returning to music full time, Bob has recorded two albums of all original compositions: Deep Canyons (2022) and Blue Streak (2023).
