Celtic-American Roots music “super group” RUNA will return to the Old Sloop Presents performing arts series Friday, March 13.

Celebrating 14 years together as a band, RUNA continues to push the boundaries of Irish folk music into the Americana and roots music formats. Interweaving the haunting melodies and exuberant tunes of Ireland and Scotland with the lush harmonies and intoxicating rhythms of jazz, bluegrass, flamenco and blues, they offer a thrilling and redefining take on traditional music.

Seeking to preserve and continue a traditional culture in a modern age, RUNA creates the backbone of its signature roots sound from the musical and geographical diversity of its individually established band members. Their search for excellence and creativity blazes a trail for the future of folk music, earning them the reputation as one of the most innovative Irish folk groups of this generation.

The performance will take place at 7:30pm in the handicap-accessible Fellowship Hall of the First Congregational Church of Rockport, 12 School St. Advance tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for those age 18 and under. Visit oldslooppresents.org, John Tarr Store in Rockport, or The Bookstore of Gloucester for tickets or more information. The suggested contribution at the door is $30 for adults, $5 for those age 18 and under, and $60 for families.
