He has recorded and produced multiple CDs\, and has shared the bandstand with Ray Charles\, Tony Bennett\, the Glen Miller Orchestra\, Lionel Hampton\, Dick Johnson and Dave McKenna. \nDrummer Gary Johnson has been keeping time for 37 years with\, among others Scott Hamilton\, Dave McKenna\, Ken Peplowski\, Keely Smith\, and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. For four years\, he traveled extensively with the Artie Shaw Orchestra under the direction of Dick Johnson. While touring\, he accompanied artists such as Buddy DiFranco\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Rosemary Clooney\, and Frankie Laine. The Ramblers draw their material primarily from Andrew’s original songs which are rooted in the slower\, dreamier side of indie-folk\, blues\, Americana and bluegrass.  Andrew Innes (Acoustic Guitar & Vocals) has been studying and performing music for almost 40 years. Andrew started at the age of 16 with harmonica and piano\, and then picked up saxophone in his senior year of high school. Over the years Andrew has fronted various jazz groups on alto and tenor saxophones; played washboard\, musical saw and harmonica with the wonderful NYC-based bluegrass/western swing band\, The Bootleg Remedy.  Andrew played saxophone and harmonica with indie-chamber pop supergroup Champale (featuring members of Clem Snide\, Luna & Nada Surf) and spent two years in the house band for the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. He performed for many years with Uncle Jimmy’s Dirty Basement\, a provocatively unlikely collaboration between Henson-level puppeteers and an avant-garde rock band and added musical saw\, saxophones and accordion to the cinematic soundscapes of the instrumental band\, Anchor Tattoo. In recent years Andrew has shifted his primary focus to guitar\, dobro\, singing\, and songwriting and can be seen in the Boston area fronting the Reluctant Ramblers\, playing with the AKE Trio\, and accompanying singer-songwriter Carla Ryder. DESCRIPTION:From New Jersey\, John Gorka is a world-renowned singer-songwriter who got his start at a neighborhood coffeehouse in eastern Pennsylvania. Though small\, Godfrey Daniels was and is one of the oldest and most venerable music institutions and has long been a hangout for music lovers and aspiring musicians. In the late 1970’s\, John was was one of these aspiring musicians. \nIn addition to his 11 critically acclaimed albums\, John released a collector’s edition box featuring a hi-definition DVD and companion CD called The Gypsy Life. Windham Hill also released a collection of John’s greatest hits from the label called Pure John Gorka. In 2010\, he also released an album with his friends and Red House label-mates Lucy Kaplansky and Eliza Gilkyson under the name Red Horse. Both Chris and Laura hail from out of state\, but they call Dedham home as they own a home and reside in Riverdale.  Chris has lived in the Boston area since 1992 and has been working as a freelance musician in bars\, restaurants and performance venues for the last 35 plus years.  Laura is a music teacher in the area teaching High School Orchestra.  She has been Irish fiddling for over 20 years\, under the training of her mentor P.V. O’Donnell\, and moved to the Boston area in 2007\, where she has played in numerous Irish sessions\, and folk groups. \nTogether\, Chris and Laura perform a mix of originals\, cover songs\, and instrumentals ranging from Roots Rock to American and Irish Folk music. They are highly influenced by Bob Dylan\, Lucinda Williams\, Tom Petty\, Gillian Welch\, Jorma Kaukonen\, Steve Earle\, Paul Brady\, The Pogues\, Doc Watson\, Neil Young\, Grateful Dead\, and many more.  The performance will be a combination of Chris’s memorable original songs\, finger picking melodies\, singing harmonies between harmonica and fiddle\, and foot stomping Irish fiddle tunes. \nFirst Church and Parish Dedham Unitarian Universalist was first gathered in 1638 and is located in Dedham Center at 670 High Street. It’s little wonder then that he also exceeds expectations. In this case\, those two qualities go hand in hand. “I’m black\, I sing\, I play an acoustic guitar\, and I don’t play the blues\,” Gilbert insists. That may be a broad statement\, but it rings with truth. \nWhat he does do is make memorable music\, as evidenced by the 13 albums he’s released so far\, as well as the mark he’s made on the folk and acoustic music scenes in general. DESCRIPTION:If there’s one constant here\, it’s The Nields sisters’ beautifully sweet vocal harmonies that sound eerily like the Roches singing Lush in a really big room. It’s infectious stuff.\n-Austin Chronicle \nWhat’s A Nields? The Nields story begins with the two sisters. Nerissa and Katryn a grew up singing folk songs in the kitchen and in the back seat of the family car. Katryna learned to sing melody with their father\, eventually making her an ideal front person for the band. Nerissa\, on the other hand\, tackled the harmonies; with that skill\, she provided a natural counterpoint to her sister’s vibrant lead. “I knew I wanted to be a singer and songwriter from the time I was 7\,” explains Nerissa. “I remember I wrote my first song that I was really proud of when I was 13\, and right away I had a harmony for it\, so I dragged Katryna out of her room and taught her the harmony. It was instinct — I knew that my sister should be there.” In the late ’80s\, Nerissa and Katryna met a graduate student named David Jones\, who had always longed for a career in music. Playing acoustic guitar through an electric pedal board\, he joined the sisters as they played open mics in the Washington\, DC area. Later\, he married Nerissa and took HER last name (“Just like the Ramones!\,” he said). The trio then moved to New England and released their first two recordings\, 66 Hoxsey St. (named after the house in Williamstown\, MA that Nerissa and David were living in when they started the band. \nBy the fall of ’94\, The Nields were a full-fledged five-piece acoustic rock explosion. Born and raised in Kyoto\, Japan and in 2000\, he received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music and came to the US. Since then\, he has been performing internationally including United Nations\, Blue Note in New York Japanese National Television. Hiroya released six albums. Most recently\, he won 2nd place in International Finger Style Guitar Championship in 2022.

His dad used to chop wood with neighbor Garth Hudson of the Band and literally built the floor that Bob Dylan stood on at manager Albert Grossman’s Bearsville studios in Woodstock\, NY.  His mom heard Pete Seeger and Joan Baez play when they filmed a TV show in her uncles living room in Boston\, and dated one of the Chambers Brothers before she met his dad.  Weaned on a diet of Jackson Browne and Toots and the Maytals\, some of Forest’s earliest memories are of his dad playing “Poncho and Lefty” by Townes Van Zandt and his mom singing Elizabeth Cotton’s “Freight Train”. Forest wrote songs with Rory Block when he was six years old\, learned to juggle with WavyGravy when he was 9\, and studied drumming with the late African master percussionist Babatunde Olatunji as a teenager.  In college he played in a band with SNL star Maya Rudolph. They opened for No Doubt at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz before Forest left to study art in Spain. \nA pioneer of the DIY movement he recorded his first record in his bedroom in San Francisco with bassist Seth Ford Young (Tom Waits\, Edward Sharpe) and toured Europe for the first time\, including playing at the Rally on Dam Square in Amsterdam for the Tibetan Freedom Concert where he first met Ben Harper\, Alanis Morrisette and Thom Yorke. \nWith over 78 million plays on Pandora\, troubadour and award-winning songwriter\, Forest Sun\, enlivens audiences around the globe with his wealth of songs and stories\, all sung and told in a laid-back California style. Send email to whalecoveproductions@gmail.com to get more information or to make a reservation. \nJon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter who’s been turning heads for years with his words\, his fiery acoustic guitar work\, and his evolved musical style – combining improvised piedmont blues with bluegrass\, swing\, and ragtime. He is the 2019 winner of the International Blues Challenge in the solo/duo category. Shain’s most recent solo disc\, Gettin’ Handy with the Blues: A Tribute to the Legacy of WC Handy\, was released in 2018 and is soon to come out as a music book published by Mel Bay. Shain’s latest releases recorded along with long-time collaborator FJ Ventre are the  gorgeous roots album\, Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday Soon (2019) and Never Found  Way to Tame the Blues (2021). \nJon grew up in Haverhill\, Massachusetts\, a Merrimack River mill-town that had already seen its better days by the time he was a child in the 1970s. His family’s business was a small textile dyeing company\, and he worked in the factory during the summers throughout his teens. At the same time\, Shain began to discover his love of American roots music and songwriting\, specifically drawn to the narratives about regular people and themes of social justice. \nJon will be accompanied by harmonica wizard Bill Newton for this concert.

DESCRIPTION:After being incredibly cautious during the pandemic\, The Kennedys are really looking forward to being back at Bass Hall. We are thrilled to have them. Pete and Maura are one of the most popular duos on the circuit today. Tickets will sell quickly so don’t hesitate. \nThe Kennedys are an American folk-rock band\, consisting of husband and wife Pete and Maura Kennedy. They are recognized for their harmonies and instrumental prowess\, blending elements of country music\, bluegrass\, Western swing and janglepop. \nIn the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic\, and after losing more than 150 concert engagements for the rest of 2020/2021\, The Kennedys started a weekly\, all-request livestreaming show\, beginning on Sunday\, March 15\, 2020 at 2pm EST\, and running every Sunday at the same time. These shows were designed to provide an uplifting hour every week to everyone suffering through the pandemic. After the first several shows\, in which The Kennedys fielded real-time requests through the chat window\, emphasizing their desire to repeat as few songs as possible\, they then started including specialty shows\, paying tribute to some of their favorite musical influences such as Bob Dylan\, Buddy Holly\, The Everly Brothers\, John Lennon\, Nanci Griffith\, Patsy Cline\, The Byrds\, and a four-part Beatles mini-series. In addition\, they have presented hours dedicated to specific genres\, including the Summer of Love\, a Beach Party\, California Country Rock\, British Invasion\, and a Motown special. All of their weekly shows are archived on their YouTube channel’s Weekly Livestream Archive. \nOriginally based in Austin\, Texas\, they spent a few years in the Washington DC area before moving to the East Village in New York City\, where they have been based for most of the last two decades. The Kennedys are known nationwide as the hosts of the late lamented Dharma Café program on Sirius Satellite Radio\, and on Broadway\, they are regular cast members of Theatre Within’s annual tribute to John Lennon — working in that capacity with Patti Smith\, Debbie Harry\, Jackson Browne\, Cyndi Lauper and a host of others. \nLife on the road and time spent in the creative ecosystem of the Village have informed their songwriting over the course of 14 duo albums and half a dozen side projects\, and Safe Until Tomorrow is true to that tradition. What sets the album apart is the inclusion of several anthemic\, rocking songs of social consciousness that convey a strong message best summed up in one of the song titles: “Be Silent No More.” The Kennedys’ music has been described as uplifting\, empowering and encouraging. Kilimanjaro and survived a gluten free diet for a decade now. She and Oprah share the same enneagram number. She wishes she’d learned music in a Southern Gospel church and dreams of becoming an olive farmer in Spain. And\, you never know\, life is a long time… and longing is a great source of inspiration. Megan is currently working on her fourth and fifth full-length albums in Colorado. \nSince her sophomore release “The Bargain”\, Megan has performed at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater\, been featured with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra\, toured Europe\, across the US\, and supported artists like Gregory Alan Isakov\, Chris Isaak\, Leann Rimes and Marc Cohn.
