SUMMARY:Antje Duvekot returns to Harmony on the Green Coffeehouse
DESCRIPTION:Antje returns to the Harmony on the Green stage after accompanying Catie Curtis at her show here back in May. The audience was delighted by her beautiful harmonies on Catie’s songs\, as well as her sharing a few of her own songs with us. We are thrilled to welcome her back! \nAntje has won some of the top songwriting awards including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition\, the prestigious\, Kerrville (TX) “Best New Folk Award” and in one of the nation’s top music markets\, she won the Boston Music Award for “Outstanding Folk Act”\, three of the top prizes in the singer songwriter world. Two of her albums found her working with Richard Shindell as producer\, as well as other “folk royalty” such as John Gorka\, Lucy Kaplancky and Mark Erelli. \nAntje has extensive touring experience\, criss-crossing the US and Europe many times. She is a compelling live performer and has been invited to play some of the top festivals including The Newport Folk Festival as well as the Mountain Stage\, Philadelphia and Kerrville Festivals. Internationally\, she’s headlined festivals in Scotland and Denmark. \nThe Bank of America featured Antje’s song “Merry Go Round” in a national TV advertising campaign\, including a Super Bowl audience. Neil Dorfsman\, producer for Bob Dylan\, Bruce Springsteen and Sting says\, “When I first heard Antje I knew I was witnessing something very special. She creates an entire\, detailed world in verse\, and takes you there with beautiful and understated melody. Her songs are stunning paintings of color and shade and always generate the heat and light that real art should. In an unpoetic and ‘in your face’ world\, she is lyrical and subtle” \nAntje has played the TEDMED conference in San Diego. CNN said of the experience\, “Then\, this morning\, the tone of the conference turned from intellectual to deeply emotional when Antje Duvekot played her guitar and sang about her grandmother’s descent into Alzheimer’s disease. Duvekot’s song was all too relatable for those of us who have watched loved ones slip away. ‘And Anna tries to form a thought / But at the end she’s forgotten where she started from / There’s something she would like to say / But the words in her head seem to have got away’ she sang.” \nAntje’s most recent album\, New Wild West was released in September\, 2023. \nOpening for Antje will be Eva Gertz. Eva is an eclectic artist of many mediums\, born and raised in Melrose\, MA where she started piano lessons at a young age. After attending Berklee College of Music (class of 2015)\, she spent six years developing her multi-faceted music career in NYC. This led her to arrange for Broadway and assist top-rank composers\, perform as a dueling pianist on cruise ships\, and self produce her original singer-songwriter releases along with ultra-creative music videos which share an uplifting message of self-love. \nShe currently lives in Somerville and teaches arranging at Berklee among many other musical jobs and projects. Her appreciation for the local arts community that has supported her from the beginning continues to grow immensely. You can learn more about her at her website https://www.evagertz.com/\nTickets available at https://hancockchurch.breezechms.com/form/17550915758430471852 \nHarmony on the Green at Hancock United Church of Christ\, is an accessible venue with parking along Mass. Avenue\, as well as in our back parking lot. \nFrom our front entrance\, there is an elevator to bring you to Clark Hall. Our back parking lot has accessible parking and a chair lift up to Clark Hall. We have single occupancy wheelchair accessible bathrooms.\nat Harmony on the Green March 2\, 202

SUMMARY:Erin Sullivan / Eric & Ash (a split bill)
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: NEW earlier showtime: 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7.\nAsh & Eric\, a married duo from Worcester\, are known for their genuine storytelling through music. Their songs navigate the intricacies of love\, capturing both its triumphs and tribulations. Their album\, “Sure\,” touches on love’s dynamics\, offering both solace and reflection. Having been a team since 2012\, their knack for transforming life’s challenges into lyrical narratives stands out. Their beautiful harmonies\, acoustic guitar work\, and warm stage presence have led them to perform alongside folk stalwarts like Livingston Taylor and Mark Erelli. Their latest album\, “Sure\,” was entirely produced by Eric\, and they’re set to release a related film in 2023. \nErin Ash Sullivan\, also rooted in Massachusetts\, presents a nuanced take on folk music. Rose Garden attendees will remember her as the winner of our 2023 Performing Songwriter Competition. Originally one-half of the folk pair\, Edith O.\, with Amy Speace\, Erin took time away for personal commitments before making a resonant return. Her 2021 solo debut\, “We Can Hear Each Other\,” found success\, particularly her track “Fireflies.” Gaining attention within the folk community\, her accolades include the Mark Erelli Judge’s Choice Award. Erin’s artistry\, often described as both delicate and evocative\, evokes comparisons to established artists\, notably Dar Williams.

SUMMARY:Dedham First Church Friday Folk Coffeehouse Presents the Cooke Family Singers on 2/16!
DESCRIPTION:Friday Folk Coffeehouse at First Church Dedham\n670 High Street\, Dedham\, MA\n(781) 326-7463 \nContact: Geoff Tegnell \nFirst Church Friday Folk Coffeehouse presents its fifth concert of the 2023-2024 season featuring the Cooke Family Singers at First Church and Parish Dedham 670 High Street\, Dedham on Friday\, February 16\, 2024 at 7:30 pm in the Auditorium. There will be refreshments for purchase.  Tickets are $15 and are available online at Folk Coffeehouse | dedhamuu and at the door.  Doors open at 7:00 pm. \nThe Cooke Family Singers is comprised of family members Frances\, Ruth\, and George\, plus an ever-changing and unpredictable set of special guests that can range from their 8-year-old niece to lifelong musician friends.  Their sets are constructed and tailored to each performance venue\, so they can range from an intimate trio with acoustic guitar to a full band.  Vocal duties rotate throughout the performance as our goal is a variety of styles and textures.  Cooke Family Singers sets will feature George’s original songs\, which tend to be humorous and slightly cynical takes on the foibles of our everyday lives. Some examples are the song “I Didn’t Know that You Owned This Road” about driving in Boston or “I’m Going to be a Park Ranger”\, which is a wistful fantasy about a job change. Cooke Family Singers’ other songs are curated covers that feature Ruth and Frances’ tight harmonies and can range from Lake St. Dive to Johnny Cash to songs from the musical “Hamilton”. They perform at porch fests and other musical events in the Northeast.  During the pandemic\, the Singers did a biweekly series of online “hootenanny’s” that were broadcast on Facebook.  The Cooke Family Singers felt it was a small way to try to build some sense of community during a very difficult time.  They are looking forward to participating in the Friday Folk Coffeehouse Series on Fri\, Feb 16\, 2024. Their music can be found on George’s Bandcamp site: https://georgecooke.bandcamp.com/. \nFirst Church and Parish Dedham Unitarian Universalist was first gathered in 1638 and is located in Dedham Center at 670 High Street. Its lively music program includes choir at Sunday services\, the Parish Players theater troupe\, and the Concerts at First Church Saturday classical concert series\, in addition to our Friday Folk Coffeehouse events.

This evening’s performers will include Mike Laureanno\, Katherine Quinn\, Maddie Cardoza\, Dean Petrella\, Scott Lewis\, and Tammy Laforest.

SUMMARY:The North Reading Community Coffeehouse Performing Artist Series Presents Don White
DESCRIPTION:The North Reading Community Coffeehouse is proud to present Don White.  Don is equal parts storyteller-comedian-author-troubadour-folk singer-songwriter\, and has been bringing audiences to laughter and tears for 30 years. White’s arc as an award-winning songwriter and performer has taken him from his industrial hometown of Lynn\, MA across the country as hitchhiker\, through Boston’s comedy clubs and coffeehouses\, and onto the stage with greats like Arlo Guthrie\, Taj Mahal\, Ritchie Havens\, Patty Larkin\, Bill Morrissey\, Tom Rush\, Louden Wainwright III\, and Christine Lavin\, with whom he toured for 8 years all across North America in a co-bill called The Funny Side of the Street. At every point\, White has been the ultimate observer\, infusing his work with his experiences as a husband\, a father\, a seeker\, and a joker. In 2011\, he won the Jerry Christen Memorial Award\, given out by Boston Area Coffeehouse Association\, for his work with the community. There is a $20 suggested donation.  Doors open at 6:30.  Please come and join us for a great evening of music and storytelling.  We are located in the Activity Room of the Flint Memorial Library at 147 Park Street in North Reading\, MA.  There is plenty of free parking.  If you would like to reserve a seat\, please contact Art Grossman at NRCoffeehouse@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Songwriters in the Round: Sumner\, Levine\, and LaVancher at Linden Tree
DESCRIPTION:Linden Tree Concerts presents:  Songwriters in the Round: \nRachel Sumner\, Susan Levine\, and Chris LaVancher \nSaturday\, Feb. 3\, 2024 at 7:30 pm \nLinden Tree Concerts is excited to present three Songwriters in the Round on Saturday\, February 3.  This year’s trio are Rachel Sumner\, Susan Levine\, and Chris LaVancher.  In the Round is a great format for performers to showcase their talents while interacting with each other on stage.  Often planned set lists are forgotten as other songs they’ve written will complement songs the others have sung. Audiences will enjoy their song choices\, musicianship\, and overall an evening of live music. \nRachel Sumner has been praised for her powerful\, lonesome voice and haunting songs. She carefully spins melodies that get caught in your head and delivers them “with an attitude and drive in her guitar playing…sure to strike a chord and dig deep into your heart. ” (Red Line Roots) Rachel may be best known as the former guitarist and singer-songwriter from bluegrass string phenom Twisted Pine\, but it is in her recent venture as a solo artist that she is beginning to be fully recognized as a writer and performer. Whether she’s fronting her new band of lush\, low-voiced strings or appearing with only a guitar\, audiences will be mesmerized by her elegantly intricate arrangements and captivated by the delivery of each and every word.. Rachel is both a Willie Nelson and a Patsy Cline of indie-folk – writing the heartfelt but catchy songs and conveying their emotional complexity with candor and an achingly beautiful yodel. And it is her diverse love of pop\, classical\, country and everything in between that she draws upon to synthesize into her own unique sound. Rachel’s songs have been critically acclaimed\, winning the Lennon Award in the folk category of the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for her song “Radium Girls.”WBUR/NPR has chosen her three consecutive  years as one of the top Massachusetts entries in the Tiny Desk Competition. rachelsumnermusic.com \nSusan Levine is a writer of well crafted songs. You might not find a straight-out love song in Susan Levine’s music\, but you will find honest songs about the complexity of modern-day relationships\, including the challenges and joys of single motherhood\, the ambivalence of finding new love after heartbreak\, and the search for grace in the smallest moments. Susan explores the emotional terrain of love\, loss and hope with a poetic blend of folk\, Americana\, pop and country\, and a voice that has garnered comparisons to Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton. Since the release of her solo cd\, “Atlas”(2007) – described in the Boston Herald as “That rare album where a whole mind and heart are revealed” – Susan has not stopped writing or performing. Through a painful divorce\, single motherhood of two young boys\, her “day job” as a music therapist\, and performing and recording as one half of Americana duo\, The Lied To’s\, with singer-songwriter\, Doug Kwartler\, music has remained her constant\, her way of processing and experiences and stories. Susan over the past 20 years is frequently nominated for her songwriting. Susan’s song “Time” (on The Lied To’s new record\, The Worst Kind of New) was chosen as a top 5 winner for Outstanding Achievement in Songwriting in the Great American Song Contest!  susanjlevine.com \nChris LaVancher will host the evening as well as participate with his repertoire of great songs he has written from his three albums. Chris’s performance evokes a mini-movie festival in your head\, complete with a full soundtrack. He writes cinematic\, character-driven songs.  His song Nostalgia from his second album\, Big Fat Love\, received an honorable mention in the 2018 Woody Guthrie Folk Festival Songwriting Contest.  In 2023 and 2014 Chris was selected as a Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist.  He was also selected for the Suzi Wollenberg Folk DJ Showcase at the North East Regional Folk Alliance. His third full-length album in November 2021 –  “After The Flood” is a collection of songs full of heart from a seasoned and skilled craftsman mining life’s subject matter  – family\, work\, love and love lost\, childhood memories\, and finding one’s place in the universe. Much of his inspiration comes from his growing up in a small town in Pennsylvania. chrislavanchermusic.com \nTickets for this show will be $25\, for those under 18 are $10. WUMB members receive a $2 discount with their membership card. We accept cash or personal check at the door.  Reservations are recommended by calling 781 246 2836. Masks recommended but not required. \nThe Linden Tree Coffeehouse in its 39th season of acoustic music is located in the social hall of the Unitarian-Universalist Church\, 326 Main St  Wakefield\, MA 01880 We thank the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, Wakefield Arts Council for supporting our concert series that has allowed us to bring quality programming to our community.  Linden Tree also  supports Fair Trade Music Local 1000. For more information see www.LindenTreeCoffeehouse.org and our  page on Facebook

SUMMARY:Mike Agranoff House Concert
DESCRIPTION:Roslindale\, MA (Address will be provided when you make your reservation.) \nReservations are required: send email to HouseConcerts@fssgb.org. $20 at the door (cash) – $5 for students. \nIf you’ve been around the folk scene\, you couldn’t miss seeing Mike. Tall\, ginger beard\, and always around where the music is. He’s been on the scene for many many years\, listening to the fine details of what makes this genre of music so special to the soul\, so able to make us laugh and cry and think. And lucky for us all\, he got serious about having fun at it. \nLess a singer-songwriter than a singer-songfinder\, Mike takes great delight in discovering the little-known hidden gems\, polishing them with his own distinctive style\, and bringing them to the light of day where they sparkle. He will shift from beautifully contemplative\, to uproariously funny\, to instrumentally brilliant\, to powerfully emotional in the space of a few minutes. Equally at home in the contemporary and traditional camps of the Folk world\, he is a fine musician and storyteller. His prime instrument is the guitar\, upon which he shines with intricate fingerstyle arrangements of anything from Tin Pan Alley tunes of the ’20s to fiddle tunes to his own music. He also plays concertina\, piano\, banjo\, or sings acapella. The man will capture your attention\, and then your heart. \nNot only a performer\, Mike is involved in presenting folk music as well. He is one of the prime movers of The Folk Project\, New Jersey’s oldest and strongest folk music organization. For over two decades he has been chairman of that organization’s Minstrel Coffeehouse\, one of the longest lived and most respected folk venues in the country. \nCheck the website\, www.fssgb.org\, or email info@fssgb.org\, if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Mark Erelli ** SOLD OUT **
DESCRIPTION:Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for youth age 18 and under. The suggested contribution at the door is $25 for adults\, $5 for juniors\, and $50 for families. \nMark Erelli turns adversity into finely embroidered rock songs that burn with urgency on his 2023 album Lay Your Darkness Down. Following full-bodied rock forebears Tom Petty\, George Harrison\, and Roy Orbison\, Erelli’s songwriting explores the unknown glories of this planet and love’s transformational power. Over his two decade-long career\, the singer-songwriter-sideman-producer-writer has proven himself equally at home in a multitude of roles: producing albums for artists like GRAMMY-winner Lori McKenna; serving as a sideman guitarist for artists like Paula Cole\, Marc Cohn\, and Josh Ritter; writing and producing his own material\, like 2018’s “By Degrees\,” for which he was nominated for Song of the Year at the Americana Honors and Awards; and most recently\, becoming an advocate for low-vision artists and working with venues to make their spaces more accessible. Written in the wake of his diagnosis with a degenerative retinal disease\, Erelli’s upcoming 2023 album Lay Your Darkness Down is the next step on Erelli’s journey\, following up on 2020’s Blindsided\, which garnered praise from Rolling Stone Country\, the Associated Press\, NPR\, The Boston Globe\, and more.
