SUMMARY:Kim Moberg and Jenna Nicholls
DESCRIPTION:“Kim Moberg has created a project that features not only her lovely voice but a songwriting style that can easily transition from the gentle Americana-tinged ballads to thoughtful protest songs. Above Ground is well worth a listen!” \n-Joe Pszonek Radio Nowhere | Joltin Joe Pszonek Finnegan’s Wake \nIn a tapestry of sound\, Jenna Nicholls weaves a spell: strumming her ukulele with the spirit of New Orleans or crooning a cowboy’s tale with the soul of the West. Her melodies\, like vintage vinyl spun anew\, carry the weight of memory and promise of tomorrow. With three albums under her belt\, her songs have found their way into the heart of cinema and the pulse of television. On the road she’s shared stages with legends like Ingrid Michaelson\, and Oscar winner Glen Hansard. From the storied stages of Carnegie Hall and the Beacon Theatre\, Jenna’s music echoes through the night\, a testament to the enduring power of song.

SUMMARY:The Hosmer Mountain Boys
DESCRIPTION:The Hosmer Mountain Boys are a retro bluegrass band that is quickly rising in the New England Bluegrass scene and having a lot of fun in the process. They were voted the “Fan Favorite” at the 2023 Podunk Bluegrass Festival\, performed in Lexington (KY) on WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour\, and crossed the pond for the 2024 Battlefield Bluegrass Festival in England.  Keegan (guitar) and Simon (banjo) met at Mando Camp North in 2018 at age 16 and instantly connected over their passion for Flatt & Scruggs. Red Day\, (mandolin) has recently been added to the band this season. Cathy Bumgarner Day (fiddle) and Tom Bowman (bass) complete the lineup with decades of regional bluegrass experience. Simon (banjo) has been described by some attendees at the Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival in Brunswick\, ME\, as Connecticut’s best‑kept secret. You’ll hear that Keegan’s major guitar‑picking influences include Riley Pucket\, Don Reno\, and the thumb‑picking style of Lester Flatt. Rounding out the band is Cathy Bumgarner Day on fiddle and Tom Bowman on bass\, both staples in the New England Bluegrass Music scene for decades.

SUMMARY:Monica Rizzio - Jan. 17\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:A bonfire on a beach. A couple of days with the one you love. Simply doing…nothing. The little joys in life. Americana singer-songwriter Monica Rizzio’s new album\, Sunshine Is Free\, is all about the simple things that make it all worth it. The concept for Sunshine Is Free was born on the road\, as Rizzio spent time under open skies while touring. Realizing she needed to step outside of a New England winter to write the follow-up to 2016’s Washashore Cowgirl\, Rizzio spent the fall of 2018 traveling from her home in Cape Cod to Nashville for writing sessions. Over a week in April at Skinny Elephant Recording\, she and producer Michael Rinne (Caroline Spence\, Erin Rae & The Meanwhiles\, Kelsey Waldon) as well as a stacked lineup of guest musicians including Mindy Smith\, Maya de Vitry\, Gwen Sebastian\, Joe Pisapia\, Will Kimbrough\, and Eamon McLoughlin\, Rizzio created a collection that focuses on finding joy in simpler things and looking for the silver lining of difficult situations. \nTitle track “Sunshine Is Free” is an upbeat number\, expanded by an infectious bass line and a rollicking banjo. The Boot says the song is “a reminder of the beautiful\, happiness-inducing parts of life\, from the free to the pricey\, the minuscule to the massive.” “Nothin’” romanticizes a perfect day without a to-do list\, spent reading Hemingway and sipping on a glass of wine. Billboard noted the track’s “delicate acoustic guitar\, steady percussion\, soaring electric guitar parts and warm vocals.” The upbeat rocker “Story of My New Year” showcases Rizzio’s versatility as a singer and declares that as a new year rolls in\, the future is boundless. Wide Open Country shined an early spotlight on “My Sweet Heart\,” a love song advising a younger self whose heart is aching. \nRizzio collaborated with longtime friend Mindy Smith for the first time on “While With You\,” with PopMatters noting that the “love song [sinks] into its soothing groove early\, with beautiful mandolin-driven instrumentation filling the spaces between the layered serenity of Rizzio and Smith’s vocal performance.” Featuring a Jerry Garcia-esque electric guitar\, “The Shire” perfectly captures the ethos of The Berkshires in Western Massachusetts\, where it was written. Growing up in a small town in East Texas\, Rizzio did what many people do in such settings: she learned to sing gospel hymns in church and received an education in classic country music\, listening to Willie Nelson\, Buck Owens\, Connie Francis and Dolly Parton. “Don’t Keep Me Up Waiting” is a waltz inspired by years of endlessly spinning Willie Nelson’s Red Headed Stranger album\, premiered by The Bluegrass Situation. “Little Bit of Truth” centers around an eye-opening 30 days during Washashore Cowgirl’s album release tour\, which found her reconciling evangelical childhood lessons with her current beliefs. On “Sunday” she examines the intricacies of a relationship gone wrong — the track focuses on her faith and how that’s changed since she was a child. \nThroughout Sunshine Is Free\, it’s clear Rizzio has a keen ability to connect; her songs are often autobiographical\, yet delivered through a fictional approach that creates a universal experience for the listener — whether expressed using her trademark sense of humor or with such striking honesty that the pain in her voice is tangible. \n“Left with no choice to go my own way\, out here looking for a little bit of truth\,” she sings\, and you can bet she’ll be happy to share the lessons she’s learned soon.

SUMMARY:Fiddler\, singer and songwriter Kathleen Parks
DESCRIPTION:Kathleen Parks is a fiddler\, singer\, and songwriter who brings joyful and creative energy to the stage and studio. \nHer writing leans toward Pop\, Folk\, and classic Jazz\, while her virtuosic fiddle blends and reimagines traditional and modern musical styles with boundless groove\, and a playful improvisational spirit. \nHer deep grounding in Celtic and American roots music blends with her love for pop songwriting\, funk rhythms\, soulful vocals\, and groove-based improvisation\, making every performance unexpected yet familiar: a musical journey from beginning to end. \nFor Kathleen\, music is not about perfection\, but feeling.   This is what has always driven her to write\, sing\, and play. Without feeling\, why play music? Music is a means to express and release our emotions. Understand the feeling\, move the energy\, and bring joy and healing in. Connection to yourself is key to playing\, to playing with others\, and moving an audience. Kathleen strives to always bring this musical value to her teaching and performances alike. \nKathleen is also a founding member of Twisted Pine and the duo Kat and Brad. \n“Goosebump-inducing vocal performances from Kathleen Parks…”– Glide Magazine – \nSee kathleenparksmusic.com for more info. \nTickets are $20 in advance at Eventbrite.com and $25 on the day of the concert.  Doors open at 7:00 and the show begins at 7:30. \nClick to buy tickets now.

SUMMARY:Fódhla
DESCRIPTION:Fódhla brings both high energy and stellar artistry to the traditional music stage. The trio’s sound is firmly rooted in the traditional Irish melodies and ornamentation that fiddler Ellery Klein and flute player Nicole Rabata honed during years spent abroad in Ireland’s cities Cork\, Limerick and Ennis. Fiddle and flute tunes are superbly supported by guitarist Bethany Waickman\, whose inventive\, tasteful chords unfold with driving rhythm perfected from years of playing for contradances. Cognizant of their North American roots\, Fódhla aims to appeal to a broad audience by bringing variety\, inventive harmonies and unique arrangements to traditional music. A typical concert starts off with high-energy traditional sets of Irish reels and jigs\, includes trade melody and harmonies and a joyful and toe-tapping pair of barn dances soaring out on a high note. Finally\, the soft notes of guitar bring in a melancholy\, exquisite slow air – music that brings out audible sighs from a rapt audience.

The suggested contribution at the door is $25 for adults\, $5 for those age 18 and under\, and $50 for families. \nTickets and more information\nCrys Matthews\, a bright star of the new generation of social justice music-makers\, will appear at the Old Sloop Presents performing arts series Friday\, February 6. Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe member Thea Hopkins will open the show. \nHailed as “the next Woody Guthrie\,” Nashville resident Crys Matthews is a powerful lyricist whose songs of compassionate dissent reflect her lived experience as what she lightheartedly calls “the poster child for intersectionality\,” Justin Hiltner of Bluegrass Situation called Matthews’s gift “a reminder of what beauty can occur when we bridge those divides.” Matthews hopes to take her place alongside some of her heroes in the world of social-justice music like Sweet Honey in the Rock and Holly Near. ASCAP VP & Creative Director Eric Philbrook says\, “By wrapping honest emotions around her socially conscious messages and dynamically delivering them with a warm heart and a strong voice\, she lifts our spirits just when we need it most in these troubled times.” \nPerforming songwriter Thea Hopkins calls her music “Red Roots Americana”. She has been described as a “standout writer” by the Washington Post. The New York Stage and Film Fund selected Hopkins as a 2025 and 2024\, “Indigenous Voices of The Northeast” artist resident in support of her play\, “An American Ghost Dance”. October 2024 saw Thea at WOMEX Manchester (UK)\, as a Western Arts Alliance US artist delegate. In Spring 2024\, she was selected to attend the First Nations gathering and the ISPA Congress in Perth\, Australia as a Western Arts Alliance artist delegate. \nThe performance will take place at 7:30pm in the handicap-accessible Fellowship Hall of the First Congregational Church of Rockport\, 12 School St. Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for those age 18 and under. DESCRIPTION:12:30pm concert\, optional 11:30am potluck brunch\n$20 cash at the door\nN. Cambridge\, MA (address given when you reserve a seat)\nReservations required: HouseConcerts@fssgb.org \nIf you’ve been around the folk scene\, you couldn’t miss seeing Mike. Tall\, ginger beard\, and always around where the music is. He’s been on the scene for many many years\, listening to the fine details of what makes this genre of music so special to the soul\, so able to make us laugh and cry and think. And lucky for us all\, he got serious about having fun at it. \nLess a singer-songwriter than a singer-songfinder\, Mike takes great delight in discovering the little-known hidden gems\, polishing them with his own distinctive style\, and bringing them to the light of day where they sparkle. He will shift from beautifully contemplative\, to uproariously funny\, to instrumentally brilliant\, to powerfully emotional in the space of a few minutes.  Equally at home in the contemporary and traditional camps of the Folk world\, he is a fine musician and storyteller. His prime instrument is the guitar\, upon which he shines with intricate fingerstyle arrangements of anything from Tin Pan Alley tunes of the ’20s to fiddle tunes to his own music. He also plays concertina\, piano\, banjo\, or sings acapella. The man will capture your attention\, and then your heart. \nNot only a performer\, Mike is involved in presenting folk music as well. He is one of the prime movers of The Folk Project\, New Jersey’s oldest and strongest folk music organization. For over four decades he was chairman of that organization’s Troubadour Acoustic Concert Series (née The Minstrel Coffeehouse)\, one of the longest lived and most respected folk venues in the country.
