SUMMARY:Fiddler\, singer and songwriter Kathleen Parks
DESCRIPTION:Kathleen Parks is a fiddler\, singer\, and songwriter who brings joyful and creative energy to the stage and studio. \nHer writing leans toward Pop\, Folk\, and classic Jazz\, while her virtuosic fiddle blends and reimagines traditional and modern musical styles with boundless groove\, and a playful improvisational spirit. \nHer deep grounding in Celtic and American roots music blends with her love for pop songwriting\, funk rhythms\, soulful vocals\, and groove-based improvisation\, making every performance unexpected yet familiar: a musical journey from beginning to end. \nFor Kathleen\, music is not about perfection\, but feeling.   This is what has always driven her to write\, sing\, and play. Without feeling\, why play music? Music is a means to express and release our emotions. Understand the feeling\, move the energy\, and bring joy and healing in. Connection to yourself is key to playing\, to playing with others\, and moving an audience. Kathleen strives to always bring this musical value to her teaching and performances alike. \nKathleen is also a founding member of Twisted Pine and the duo Kat and Brad. \n“Goosebump-inducing vocal performances from Kathleen Parks…”– Glide Magazine – \nSee kathleenparksmusic.com for more info. \nTickets are $20 in advance at Eventbrite.com and $25 on the day of the concert.  Doors open at 7:00 and the show begins at 7:30. \nClick to buy tickets now.

SUMMARY:Fódhla
DESCRIPTION:Fódhla brings both high energy and stellar artistry to the traditional music stage. The trio’s sound is firmly rooted in the traditional Irish melodies and ornamentation that fiddler Ellery Klein and flute player Nicole Rabata honed during years spent abroad in Ireland’s cities Cork\, Limerick and Ennis. Fiddle and flute tunes are superbly supported by guitarist Bethany Waickman\, whose inventive\, tasteful chords unfold with driving rhythm perfected from years of playing for contradances. Cognizant of their North American roots\, Fódhla aims to appeal to a broad audience by bringing variety\, inventive harmonies and unique arrangements to traditional music. A typical concert starts off with high-energy traditional sets of Irish reels and jigs\, includes trade melody and harmonies and a joyful and toe-tapping pair of barn dances soaring out on a high note. Finally\, the soft notes of guitar bring in a melancholy\, exquisite slow air – music that brings out audible sighs from a rapt audience.

SUMMARY:Crys Matthews - Thea Hopkins opens
DESCRIPTION:Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for those age 18 and under. Visit oldslooppresents.org\, John Tarr Store in Rockport\, or The Bookstore of Gloucester. The suggested contribution at the door is $25 for adults\, $5 for those age 18 and under\, and $50 for families. \nTickets and more information\nCrys Matthews\, a bright star of the new generation of social justice music-makers\, will appear at the Old Sloop Presents performing arts series Friday\, February 6. Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe member Thea Hopkins will open the show. \nHailed as “the next Woody Guthrie\,” Nashville resident Crys Matthews is a powerful lyricist whose songs of compassionate dissent reflect her lived experience as what she lightheartedly calls “the poster child for intersectionality\,” Justin Hiltner of Bluegrass Situation called Matthews’s gift “a reminder of what beauty can occur when we bridge those divides.” Matthews hopes to take her place alongside some of her heroes in the world of social-justice music like Sweet Honey in the Rock and Holly Near. ASCAP VP & Creative Director Eric Philbrook says\, “By wrapping honest emotions around her socially conscious messages and dynamically delivering them with a warm heart and a strong voice\, she lifts our spirits just when we need it most in these troubled times.” \nPerforming songwriter Thea Hopkins calls her music “Red Roots Americana”. She has been described as a “standout writer” by the Washington Post. The New York Stage and Film Fund selected Hopkins as a 2025 and 2024\, “Indigenous Voices of The Northeast” artist resident in support of her play\, “An American Ghost Dance”. October 2024 saw Thea at WOMEX Manchester (UK)\, as a Western Arts Alliance US artist delegate. In Spring 2024\, she was selected to attend the First Nations gathering and the ISPA Congress in Perth\, Australia as a Western Arts Alliance artist delegate. \nThe performance will take place at 7:30pm in the handicap-accessible Fellowship Hall of the First Congregational Church of Rockport\, 12 School St. Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for those age 18 and under. Visit oldslooppresents.org\, John Tarr Store in Rockport\, or The Bookstore of Gloucester for tickets or more information. SUMMARY:Mike Agranoff House Concert (optional potluck brunch)
DESCRIPTION:12:30pm concert\, optional 11:30am potluck brunch\n$20 cash at the door\nN. Cambridge\, MA (address given when you reserve a seat)\nReservations required: HouseConcerts@fssgb.org \nIf you’ve been around the folk scene\, you couldn’t miss seeing Mike. Tall\, ginger beard\, and always around where the music is. He’s been on the scene for many many years\, listening to the fine details of what makes this genre of music so special to the soul\, so able to make us laugh and cry and think. And lucky for us all\, he got serious about having fun at it. \nLess a singer-songwriter than a singer-songfinder\, Mike takes great delight in discovering the little-known hidden gems\, polishing them with his own distinctive style\, and bringing them to the light of day where they sparkle. He will shift from beautifully contemplative\, to uproariously funny\, to instrumentally brilliant\, to powerfully emotional in the space of a few minutes.  Equally at home in the contemporary and traditional camps of the Folk world\, he is a fine musician and storyteller. His prime instrument is the guitar\, upon which he shines with intricate fingerstyle arrangements of anything from Tin Pan Alley tunes of the ’20s to fiddle tunes to his own music. He also plays concertina\, piano\, banjo\, or sings acapella. The man will capture your attention\, and then your heart. \nNot only a performer\, Mike is involved in presenting folk music as well. He is one of the prime movers of The Folk Project\, New Jersey’s oldest and strongest folk music organization. For over four decades he was chairman of that organization’s Troubadour Acoustic Concert Series (née The Minstrel Coffeehouse)\, one of the longest lived and most respected folk venues in the country.

SUMMARY:Vance Gilbert
DESCRIPTION:“If Joni Mitchell and Richie Havens had a love child\, with Rodney Dangerfield as the midwife\, the results might be something close to the great Vance Gilbert”\, says Richmond Magazine. One of the originators of the finally recognized R&B/Folk/Jazz crossover-sub-genre\, Vance was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. Starting out hoping to be an R&B and jazz singer once at college\, there he discovered his affinity for the storytelling sensibilities of the acoustic singer-songwriter thing. Noted not only for being the ever consummate performer\, Gilbert has recorded 13 albums\, including 5 for Philo/Rounder Records.

SUMMARY:Charlotte Morris / James Lee Baker ~ A split bill - Feb. 21\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:James Lee Baker\nWinner 2024 Rose Garden Performing Songwriter Competition\nBirthed from the dusty high plains of the bible belt\, wordsmith James Lee Baker sources the essence of his craft from a small-town past and a journey of self-discovery as the way out. Laced with mysticism\, his emotive and thought-provoking songs speak to the shared\, tender heart of our human condition. \nIn 2020\, he released 100 Summers – a full-length LP of songs centered around a theme of change. The title track reached #1 on the FAI Folk charts that month\, garnering nearly half a million streams across platforms. Two of the songs on the project –Returning to Paris and The Last Cowboy in Hutchinson County – were selected as finalists for several nationally-known songwriting contests. \nIn 2022\, he released a cover project called “Impressions”\, recorded by Chris Bell (U2\, The Eagles) and produced by Roscoe Beck (Eric Johnson\, Leonard Cohen)\, which was released in 2022. The single “Did Galileo Pray?”\, a cover of Ellis Paul\, charted #10. John Apice from Americana Highways said “Baker’s cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Just Like a Woman’ is one of the finest I ever heard. He captures the lyric\, understands it and possesses it as a first-class interpreter.” \nCharlotte Morris\nWinner 2025 Rose Garden Performing Songwriter Competition\nGrowing up near Philadelphia\, Charlotte Morris found her passion for music early\, learning multiple instruments and writing songs by age twelve. Influenced by folk classics and female storytellers like Joni Mitchell and Brandi Carlile\, she developed a genuine\, raw\, and emotional style. \nAfter touring with “Lonesome Traveler” in 2018\, performing alongside folk legends\, Charlotte released her debut EP “To New York\, with Love\,” followed by the “Sputnik” EP and a national acoustic tour. Her first full-length album\, “Songs For My Next Ex” (2020)\, received critical acclaim\, prompting her move to Nashville in 2021. \nThere\, she participated in The Johnny Mercer Foundation’s Songwriters Project\, mentored by industry greats. In 2022\, Charlotte partnered with Charlotte Avenue Entertainment\, releasing impactful singles like “Good Kind of Hurt” and “Tennessee.” Her second studio album\, “Wild Child” (2023)\, gained international recognition. After a 30-city international tour in 2024\, Charlotte returned to Philadelphia\, with new music and tours on the horizon. She holds a degree in Theatre from Northwestern University.

SUMMARY:Garnet Rogers - Special FRIDAY Show
DESCRIPTION:Garnet Rogers has established himself as ‘One of the major talents of our time”. Hailed by the Boston Globe as a “charismatic performer and singer”\, Garnet is a man with a powerful physical presence – close to six and a half feet tall – with a voice to match. With his “smooth\, dark baritone” (Washington Post) his incredible range\, and thoughtful\, dramatic phrasing\, Garnet is widely considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the finest singers anywhere. His music\, like the man himself\, is literate\, passionate\, highly sensitive\, and deeply purposeful. Cinematic in detail\, his songs “give expression to the unspoken vocabulary of the heart” (Kitchener Waterloo Record). An optimist at heart\, Garnet sings extraordinary songs about people who are not obvious heroes and of the small victories of the everyday. As memorable as his songs\, his over-the-top humor and lightning-quick wit moves his audience from tears to laughter and back again. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Tom Rush
DESCRIPTION:PFM celebrating 30 years!!!!!!  \nWe are honored and thrilled to have Tom Rush\, one of our longest standing performers in the Monadnock region\, open our 30th season. \nTom Rush is a gifted musician and performer\, whose shows offer a musical celebration…a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been\, can be\, and will become. His distinctive guitar style\, wry humor and warm\, expressive voice have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling\, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues. \nRush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the ’60s and the renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s\, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor told Rolling Stone\, “Tom was not only one of my early heroes\, but also one of my main influences.” Country music star Garth Brooks has credited Rush with being one of his top five musical influences. Rush has long championed emerging artists. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell\, Jackson Browne and James Taylor\, and in more recent years his Club 47® concerts have brought artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences when they were just beginning to build their own reputations. \nhttps://www.tomrush.com/
