SUMMARY:Garnet Rogers
DESCRIPTION:QUOTES\n“Garnet Rogers is capable of awe-inspiring and unpredictable stuff – and that includes more than just music” \nABOUT\nIn a darkened bedroom\, lit only by the amber glow from an old floor model radio\, two young brothers aged 6 and 12 lay in their beds\, listening to the country music broadcasts from the Grand Ol’ Opry\, and practiced their harmonies. Two years later\, the youngest one was playing the definitive 8-year-old’s version of “Desolation Row” on his ukulele. He soon abandoned that instrument to teach himself the flute\, violin and guitar.\nWithin ten years\, and barely out of high school\, Garnet Rogers was on the road as a full-time working musician with his older brother Stan. Together they formed what has come to be accepted as one of the most influential acts in North American folk music. \nSince then\, Garnet Rogers has established himself as ‘One of the major talents of our time”. Hailed by the Boston Globe as a “charismatic performer and singer”\, Garnet is a man with a powerful physical presence – close to six and a half feet tall – with a voice to match. With his “smooth\, dark baritone” (Washington Post) his incredible range\, and thoughtful\, dramatic phrasing\, Garnet is widely considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the finest singers anywhere. His music\, like the man himself\, is literate\, passionate\, highly sensitive\, and deeply purposeful. Cinematic in detail\, his songs “give expression to the unspoken vocabulary of the heart” (Kitchener Waterloo Record). An optimist at heart\, Garnet sings extraordinary songs about people who are not obvious heroes and of the small victories of the everyday. As memorable as his songs\, his over-the-top humor and lightning-quick wit moves his audience from tears to laughter and back again. \nResolutely independent\, Garnet Rogers has turned down offers from major labels to do his music his own way. \nhttps://garnetrogers.com/

SUMMARY:Sol Y Canto
DESCRIPTION:Sol y Canto\, a fixture in Boston’s folk and world music scene for decades\, is the award-winning Pan-Latin ensemble led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist\, singer and composer Brian Amador. Featuring Rosi’s crystalline voice and Brian’s lush Spanish guitar and inventive compositions\, Sol y Canto is known for making their music accessible to Spanish- and non-Spanish speaking audiences of all ages. Their original songs can make you dance\, laugh\, cry and sigh all in one concert and their arrangements of classic and contemporary Latin tunes are always fresh and original. With Brian’s commanding\, intricate guitar playing\, Rosi’s rhythmic drive on cajón and bongos\, and liberal use of vocal improvisation\, the duo often sounds like a much larger ensemble. \nSince 1994\, Sol y Canto has brought audiences to their feet from the Kennedy Center to the California World Music Festival to Boston’s Symphony Hall. The Boston Globe hails them as “sublime ambassadors of the Pan-Latin tradition.” Norman Weinstein of the Christian Science Monitorand Boston Phoenix observes: “Always they evoke the sensual splendor of simply being vitally\, vividly alive in a magical and mysterious universe. Brian Amador is a Spanish modernist poet in the guise of a musician…Together\, Rosi and Brian Amador create a musical marriage made in heaven.”

The suggested contribution at the door is $25 for adults\, $5 for those age 18 and under\, and $50 for families. \nTickets and more information\nTret Fure began her career at the age of 16\, singing in coffeehouses and campuses in the Midwest. At 19\, she moved to LA in hopes of obtaining a record deal. Within a year she was performing as guitarist and vocalist for Spencer Davis\, touring with him and penning the single for his album Mousetrap. She went on to record her own album Tret Fure in 1973\, on MCA/UNI Records\, with the late Lowell George of Little Feat as her producer. With the success of that release\, she opened for such bands as Yes\, Poco\, and the J Geils Band. \nA prolific artist in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena\, Tret Fure has released 18 albums and CDs over the course of her 51-year career. Her new CD\, Lavender Moonshine was released in late 2023. In addition to being a gifted songwriter\, Fure has engineered and produced countless recordings by a variety of artists\, including her own work. \nIn the early ’80s\, Tret moved to the independent side of the industry discovering the blossoming genre known as Women’s Music. She recorded with and produced some of the best of women’s music including mixing the legendary Meg & Cris at Carnegie Hall (1983). She worked as a duo with Cris Williamson throughout the ’90s\, producing\, engineering and releasing three CDs together. Now after nine acoustic releases on her own label\, Tomboy girl Records\, she has re-established herself in the folk world. \nNora Meier is a diehard music fan\, a frequent moviegoer\, a daughter of two English majors\, an Oregonian at heart\, a verbal processor\, a big reader\, extremely stubborn\, and always writing. Her debut album Outfield was born on a farm in Connecticut with the help of some of her favorite musicians. Eleven songs were tracked in seven days\, interspersed by basketball scrimmages\, deli trips and walks around a big field.

DESCRIPTION:Ellis Paul doesn’t just write songs; he’s a guitar-carrying reporter who covers the human condition and details the hopes\, loves\, losses of those he observes\, turning their stories into luminous pieces of music that get under your skin and into your bloodstream. And much like the artists who have influenced him\, everyone from Joni Mitchell\, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon to the singer-songwriter who is undoubtedly his greatest inspiration\, Woody Guthrie\, Paul weaves deeply personal experiences with social issues and renders them as provocative works that are as timely as they are timeless. He has\, so far\, recorded 23 albums.\nSadie Gustafson-Zook opens.

As he did to mine tonight. A true giant.” James Volpe Rotondi (editor at Guitar Player Magazine) \n“This is beautiful… Pierre is one of the GREATS!!!” Tommy Emmanuel Cgp. \n“Pierre Bensusan’s music is a true inspiration.” Suzanne Vega \n“Pierre is one of my favorite guitarists. He has created a new way of playing and is the king of the DADGAD tuning.” Michael Hedges \nABOUT \nAfter releasing ‘Azwan’\, an album about our oneness and interconnectivity in the midst of a unifying global crisis\, French-Algerian guitarist\, vocalist and composer\, Pierre Bensusan is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his career. \nWhen Michael Hedges titles one of his compositions “Bensusan”\, you know that the inspiration behind it must be special and Pierre Bensusan certainly is. Guitarists from Leo Kottke to Larry Corryel\, to Tuck Andress\, Tommy Emmanuel\, Mark Knopfler\, Julian Lage\, Andrew York\, Andy Timmons\, to Steve Lukather… have sung his praises\, and Steve Vai released three Bensusan albums on his label Favored Nations. And it’s not just guitarists who are so inspired by Pierre’s music\, as a recent studio collaboration with him on Donny Osmond’s latest album “Start Again” goes to show. \nIf World Music means the fusion of traditional\, contemporary\, jazz\, classical and pop music\, then Bensusan is one of the most eloquent World Music musicians of our time. A pianist in his beginnings then self-taught on the guitar\, the originality of his style makes him one of today’s greatest guitarists and composers for the instrument. Also called “The Prince of DADGAD”\, his story is far from trivial and it is on stage that this artist has earned his stripes: among others\, the Rose d’Or of the Montreux Festival\, and being elected Best Guitarist of World Music by the readers of Guitar Player Magazine! His triple album “Encore” won the Grand Prix of the Independent Music Awards in the category Best Live Album… Since his first performances in 1974 in France\, the guitarist has sold half a million albums and given thousands of concerts around the globe\, both solo and through numerous collaborations. \nPierre Bensusan is an adventurer of unusual lands. His almost “sacred” music is an intimate and orchestral hymn\, a solo crossing on a multi-shell Lowden guitar subjected to the natural elements with sound molecules and finger pulp on an ebony fingerboard for open tuning – an unique and transparent technique\, under the fingers of an adventurous pilgrim. \nhttp://www.pierrebensusan.com

SUMMARY:Bird & Augur - Recording LIVE!
DESCRIPTION:There is always something cooking at Stone Soup Coffeehouse\, and on Saturday\, October 11th\, we have a very special evening planned. Local duo Bird & Augur will be appearing at our venue\, and they will be recording a live compilation of their songs and music while our audience looks on and becomes part of the recording. We believe we have only done this once before when we recorded Bill Harley live at Stone Soup Coffeehouse when we were located at Slater Mill Historic Site. Tonight will be a unique and different listening experience and we hope you will join in the magic. The concert begins at 7 pm. Tickets are $22 and can be purchased in advance on our website.\nABOUT THE ARTISTS\nBird & Augur is a Rhode Island–based anticapitalist folk duo inspired by the traditions of solidarity and resistance that shape labor songs\, protest anthems\, and folk music globally. With rich harmonies\, intricate fingerpicking\, and heartfelt storytelling\, Bo Fage (they/them\, guitar) and James Cappelletti (he/him\, banjo) lend their voices to an ongoing reckoning with systems of violence and control. Their music invites listeners to build community\, and to attend to the signs\, the stories\, and the unfolding future that still responds to care and intention. They have performed on the Stone Soup Coffeehouse stage at the Music Mansion before during an open mic night and as part of our June fundraiser in 2024. They have been well received by all\, and we wanted to bring them back to showcase their incredible talent\, as well as the profound messages in their songs\, as Stone Soup has always been a place where social justice and the human condition has been the front and center of our mission\, as well.

SUMMARY:David Dodson
DESCRIPTION:David Dodson writes great songs that run the gamut of American styles—folk\, rock\, blues\, jazz and country. His songs cover a variety of topics and range from poignant to hilarious. He plays a mean guitar\, tells a good story\, sings like a bird\, and he’s got rhythm. Who could ask for anything more? \n“The Farthest Field\,” a favorite among singing groups of all kinds\, has been included in “Rise Again” (the second edition of “Rise Up Singing”) and other song books.
