SUMMARY:Jerry Martinez & Nicolas Emden Sept 27th at Harmony on the Green
DESCRIPTION:Harmony on the Green Coffeehouse Concerts opens its 4th season with two artists that so impressed us when they performed for us as opening acts\, that we’ve invited them to come back at the top of the bill! Nicolas Emden is a Chilean born singer songwriter who will be appearing with his duo. His music navigates the waters of pop\, rock\, and South American folk\, creating a distinctive South Americana indie folk rock sound\, with evocative Spanish lyrics. \nNicolas Emden \nJerry Martinezhas been active in the local (and not so local) music scene for over 4 decades. He is a songwriter\, guitarist\, and singer steeped in the Americana\, Singer/Songwriter\, Blues\, and Folk traditions. SUMMARY:Sol Y Canto
DESCRIPTION:Sol y Canto\, a fixture in Boston’s folk and world music scene for decades\, is the award-winning Pan-Latin ensemble led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist\, singer and composer Brian Amador. Featuring Rosi’s crystalline voice and Brian’s lush Spanish guitar and inventive compositions\, Sol y Canto is known for making their music accessible to Spanish- and non-Spanish speaking audiences of all ages. Their original songs can make you dance\, laugh\, cry and sigh all in one concert and their arrangements of classic and contemporary Latin tunes are always fresh and original. With Brian’s commanding\, intricate guitar playing\, Rosi’s rhythmic drive on cajón and bongos\, and liberal use of vocal improvisation\, the duo often sounds like a much larger ensemble. \nSince 1994\, Sol y Canto has brought audiences to their feet from the Kennedy Center to the California World Music Festival to Boston’s Symphony Hall. The Boston Globe hails them as “sublime ambassadors of the Pan-Latin tradition.” Norman Weinstein of the Christian Science Monitorand Boston Phoenix observes: “Always they evoke the sensual splendor of simply being vitally\, vividly alive in a magical and mysterious universe. Brian Amador is a Spanish modernist poet in the guise of a musician…Together\, Rosi and Brian Amador create a musical marriage made in heaven.”

SUMMARY:Pierre Bensusan
DESCRIPTION:QUOTES \n“With only his steel-string-acoustic guitar – and sometimes his rich\, affecting voice – Mr Bensusan can disassemble your heart and hand it back to you restored and renewed. As he did to mine tonight. A true giant.” James Volpe Rotondi (editor at Guitar Player Magazine) \n“This is beautiful… Pierre is one of the GREATS!!!” Tommy Emmanuel Cgp. \n“Pierre Bensusan’s music is a true inspiration.” Suzanne Vega \n“Pierre is one of my favorite guitarists. He has created a new way of playing and is the king of the DADGAD tuning.” Michael Hedges \nABOUT \nAfter releasing ‘Azwan’\, an album about our oneness and interconnectivity in the midst of a unifying global crisis\, French-Algerian guitarist\, vocalist and composer\, Pierre Bensusan is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his career. \nWhen Michael Hedges titles one of his compositions “Bensusan”\, you know that the inspiration behind it must be special and Pierre Bensusan certainly is. Guitarists from Leo Kottke to Larry Corryel\, to Tuck Andress\, Tommy Emmanuel\, Mark Knopfler\, Julian Lage\, Andrew York\, Andy Timmons\, to Steve Lukather… have sung his praises\, and Steve Vai released three Bensusan albums on his label Favored Nations. And it’s not just guitarists who are so inspired by Pierre’s music\, as a recent studio collaboration with him on Donny Osmond’s latest album “Start Again” goes to show. \nIf World Music means the fusion of traditional\, contemporary\, jazz\, classical and pop music\, then Bensusan is one of the most eloquent World Music musicians of our time. A pianist in his beginnings then self-taught on the guitar\, the originality of his style makes him one of today’s greatest guitarists and composers for the instrument. Also called “The Prince of DADGAD”\, his story is far from trivial and it is on stage that this artist has earned his stripes: among others\, the Rose d’Or of the Montreux Festival\, and being elected Best Guitarist of World Music by the readers of Guitar Player Magazine! His triple album “Encore” won the Grand Prix of the Independent Music Awards in the category Best Live Album… Since his first performances in 1974 in France\, the guitarist has sold half a million albums and given thousands of concerts around the globe\, both solo and through numerous collaborations. \nPierre Bensusan is an adventurer of unusual lands. His almost “sacred” music is an intimate and orchestral hymn\, a solo crossing on a multi-shell Lowden guitar subjected to the natural elements with sound molecules and finger pulp on an ebony fingerboard for open tuning – an unique and transparent technique\, under the fingers of an adventurous pilgrim. \nhttp://www.pierrebensusan.com

SUMMARY:Bird & Augur - Recording LIVE!
DESCRIPTION:There is always something cooking at Stone Soup Coffeehouse\, and on Saturday\, October 11th\, we have a very special evening planned. Local duo Bird & Augur will be appearing at our venue\, and they will be recording a live compilation of their songs and music while our audience looks on and becomes part of the recording. We believe we have only done this once before when we recorded Bill Harley live at Stone Soup Coffeehouse when we were located at Slater Mill Historic Site. Tonight will be a unique and different listening experience and we hope you will join in the magic. The concert begins at 7 pm. Tickets are $22 and can be purchased in advance on our website.\nABOUT THE ARTISTS\nBird & Augur is a Rhode Island–based anticapitalist folk duo inspired by the traditions of solidarity and resistance that shape labor songs\, protest anthems\, and folk music globally. With rich harmonies\, intricate fingerpicking\, and heartfelt storytelling\, Bo Fage (they/them\, guitar) and James Cappelletti (he/him\, banjo) lend their voices to an ongoing reckoning with systems of violence and control. Their music invites listeners to build community\, and to attend to the signs\, the stories\, and the unfolding future that still responds to care and intention. They have performed on the Stone Soup Coffeehouse stage at the Music Mansion before during an open mic night and as part of our June fundraiser in 2024. They have been well received by all\, and we wanted to bring them back to showcase their incredible talent\, as well as the profound messages in their songs\, as Stone Soup has always been a place where social justice and the human condition has been the front and center of our mission\, as well.

He plays a mean guitar\, tells a good story\, sings like a bird\, and he’s got rhythm. Who could ask for anything more? \n“The Farthest Field\,” a favorite among singing groups of all kinds\, has been included in “Rise Again” (the second edition of “Rise Up Singing”) and other song books. David was inspired to write this song by a gathering of friends\, singing\, high up in a beautiful field in northern Vermont. \nDavid\, who lives in Camden ME\, was also a New Folk winner at the Kerrville Folk Festival. \nLearn more about David at daviddodsonmusic.com \n“An eyes-twinkling\, word-twisting\, pretension-shattering wit that delighted and surprised the crowd all night.” ~ Boston Globe \n“David Dodson is without a doubt one of the most entertaining performers on the folk scene today. SUMMARY:Open Mic Night at The Music Mansion
DESCRIPTION:Over the last couple years we have tried a lot of things on our open mic stage. In Season 42\, we held workshops for developing musicians. in Season 43\, we invited hosts of other open mics around the state to feature on our stage. We trained new sound engineers only to forgo all the tech. It’s now musicians and audiences in a room together – a room designed for music to flow and flourish. \nEd Dean returns as our open mic host\, opening the doors to The Music Mansion. It’s a welcoming environment for beginners\, new artists\, and veteran local musicians. The Open Mic Series is one of the ways we practice what we preach and Ed is an  incredible minister for this community. Hope to see you there.
