SUMMARY:Darlin' Corey
DESCRIPTION:This concert will be indoors at the hosts’ home in Rockport\, Mass. and capacity will be limited to 30. The suggested contribution is $20\, payable at the door by cash\, check\, or Venmo. Send email to info@whalecove.org to get more information or to request an invitation. \nFrom the northern reach of the Appalachian Trail comes the musical trio Darlin’ Corey. Drawing on the many threads of North American folk music\, their elegant harmonies are the beating heart of their sound\, in both their original music and the traditional Folk\, Old Time\, and Bluegrass music they regularly showcase. In Darlin’ Corey’s singing and playing\, you can feel the many years of dedication to these celebrated musical traditions. \nErica Brown’s fiddle-playing is at turns virtuosic and completely unpretentious. Matt Shipman is an ideal counterpart as his versatility on a dizzying array of stringed instruments (guitar\, Irish bouzouki\, 5-string banjo\, mandolin) blend seamlessly\, never timid or overpowering. Add to that Kris Day’s steady and tasteful bass playing and together they create an engaging performance of thoughtful originals and traditional songs and tunes that have influenced them along the way. Darlin’ Corey has become a well known and favorite act in the Portland\, ME area in recent years.

SUMMARY:The Clements Brothers
DESCRIPTION:The Clements Brothers\nThe Clements Brothers are George (guitar) and Charles (upright bass)\, identical twins from the heart of New England. The two have been playing and writing music together for as long as they can remember\, first entering the Americana music scene in 2012 as part of the internationally touring grassroots band The Lonely Heartstring Band\, with whom they put out two albums on Rounder Records. More recently\, George could be found playing the role of Paul Simon in the hit national theater show The Simon and Garfunkel Story\, while Charles could often be seen in the bass section of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. \nThe Clements Brothers recently released their first original project together\, focused on capturing their singer-songwriter sensibilities in a unique blend with harmonies only achievable by their identical voices–at once enthralling and intimate\, groovy and serene.

SUMMARY:Avi Jacob | Originals & Dylan
DESCRIPTION:Avi Jacob is one of those performing artists who comes along once in a while\, whose sound is unique and new\, and you get the feeling that\, yes\, this one is going somewhere. Avi first performed at Stone Soup Coffeehouse opening for Allysen Callery in 2022. Since then he has been making a name for himself at venues all over New England\, as well as other places. This weekend\, Avi returns to the Stone Soup stage to not only sing many of his own songs\, but to also do a set of Bob Dylan classics. The show is on Saturday\, February 8\, 2025 at 7 pm at the Music Mansion\, 88 Meeting St\, Providence\, RI 02906. Tickets are $22\, and are available at the door or with reservation through our website. Please appear at least 15 minutes before the performance begins\, or you will relinquish your tickets to those waiting to attend (unless it is prepaid).  \nABOUT THE ARTISTS  \nBorn & raised in New England\, Avi ran away from home in his teen years and ended up in Boston. Spending the next several years in & out of hospitals with a genetic disease\, Avi was mostly confined to his bedroom where he spent his time & energy creating songs. After recuperating\, Avi came out of the room and into the world with the ability to express his true and deepest feelings through song\, in a way most men are discouraged to do from birth. Moving to South Carolina\, Avi started making a name for himself playing music festivals\, being featured in dozens of music blogs & samplers. Over the last two years\, Avi has been balancing touring the country playing cafés\, clubs & theatres with farming\, truck driving\, & doing demolition.  \nAlmost all of Jacob’s tunes pack an emotional wallop\, and the five on Surrender\, due out this month\, are no exception. “These songs are extremely personal\, maybe a little too personal\,” Jacob laughs of the EP\, which he recorded with Simone Felice (who produced The Lumineers’ latest album) in a Catskills barn. “Some people go to therapists; I write songs.” Charleston: The City Magazine (2017)  \nAvi will be accompanied by his band for this performance. Band members are Ben Cosgrove on piano\, Brian Jablonski on pedal steel and Polly Bessette on harmony vocals. Ben is a traveling composer-performer whose music explores themes of landscape\, place\, and environment. Described by the Boston Globe as “a sonic plein-air painter… [using] his piano as a paintbrush\,” Brian is a local musician who is the epitome of the word ubiquitous\, appearing and supporting many of the local folk/singer-songwriter performers and bands in and around the state. Polly is a singer/songwriter from Warren Rhode Island with a passion for lyricism and folky tunes. Her music captures the ears of many through her raw and thoughtful recollections of universal growing pains in the sweetest of sounds.

SUMMARY:Peter Mulvey & Ruth Theodore at Harmony on the Green\, with Andrew Sue Wing opening
DESCRIPTION:Over the past 20 years\, Peter Mulvey has pursued a restless\, eclectic path as a writer and musician – immersing himself in Tin Pan Alley jazz\, modern acoustic\, poetry\, narrative\, and Americana stylings. He has shared the stage with luminaries such as Emmylou Harris\, Richard Thompson\, Ani DiFranco\, Indigo Girls\, and Greg Brown. Mulvey began as a self-described “city kid” from Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. He traveled to Dublin\, Ireland\, in 1989\, where he learned the trade of the street singer. Returning to the States\, he began making a living as a subway and street busker in Boston\, before taking to the road full time. Mulvey has a rare ability to hold an audience’s attention and transport them\, using wit\, humor. \nJoining Peter will be Ruth Theodore\, Peter’s labelmate on Righteous Babe Records. Ruth is a seasoned British songwriter and producer whose work fascinates audiences with its gripping honesty and distinctive lyricism. Ruth’s songs of life\, death\, love\, and the human condition are that of a skilled contemporary songwriter. Delivered with effortless unapologetic passion\, Theodore’s live performances will take you places\, make you laugh and cry and often both at once. Ruth has produced three critically acclaimed records\, and following her most recent collaboration with award winning US producer and bassist Todd Sickafoose (Anais Mitchell/Ani Difranco)\, Ruth is back collaborating as co-producer with Todd on her 2024 release “I am I am”. \nAndrew Sue Wing is a Boston based singer/songwriter and guitarist specializing in funk-rock. Equipped with a strong baritone voice and a unique style of rhythm and lead guitar\, he’s able to belt out strong choruses and deliver soulful ballads. His repertoire includes both originals and covers of classics. With influences such as Stevie Wonder\, Sam Cooke\, John Scofield\, and John Mayer\, his originals combine blues\, rock\, funk\, and soul. \nOur building is accessible with an elevator to Clark Hall from the front entrance\, and a lift up to the hall from the back parking lot. We have ample free parking\, accessible parking spots and accessible single user bathrooms.
