SUMMARY:Hancock Church’s Candlelight Garden Concerts presents Fodhla Celtic Trio\, Wed. July 9 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a candlelit evening of music in our beautiful courtyard garden! Fódhla brings both high energy and stellar artistry to the traditional music stage. The trio’s sound is firmly rooted in the traditional Irish melodies and ornamentation that fiddler Ellery Klein and flute player Nicole Rabata honed during years spent abroad in Ireland’s cities Cork\, Limerick\, and Ennis. Fiddle and flute tunes are superbly supported by guitarist Bethany Waickman\, whose inventive\, tasteful chords unfold with driving rhythm perfected from years of playing for contradances. All tickets must be purchased in advance as only 35 seats will be sold. In case of inclement weather\, the concert will be held indoors.

SUMMARY:Goodnight Moonshine - Molly Venter and Eben Pariser
DESCRIPTION:QUOTES \n“Pariser’s harmonic sensibilities are wide\, imaginative\, while Venter’s singular voice recalls pre-diva singers who could lay out emotions without melodrama.”\n-Jedd Beaudoin\, NPR \n“Goodnight Moonshine is singer-songwriter Molly Venter and guitarist Eben Pariser\, and their particular magic they create together is fluid\, evocative\, and absolutely mesmerizing. Watching them perform you get the sense that they aren’t just delivering a song\, they ARE the music. As partners in life and in art\, their deep authenticity and give-and-take collaboration is inspiring\, inclusive and beautiful to witness.”\n-Beth Wood\, Singer-Songwriter / Sisters Folk Festival \n“Let’s begin with the voice of Molly Venter. It’s velvety smooth. It’s biker-chick smoky. It has a jaw-dropping range and control that can bend from soulful to gritty to playful and back again.” \n  -Lisa Reisman\, New Haven Register \n  \nBIO \nGoodnight Moonshine is a guitar and vocal duet\, and a musical marriage in all senses. The Duo combines the evocative voice and songwriting of Molly Venter\, with Eben Pariser’s adventurous guitar playing. The result is folk music with a depth of improvisation and tonal subtlety usually reserved for jazz. \nMolly is well known for her sublime singing in the prominent female-vocal-group Red Molly\, while Eben cut his teeth as a street performer in New York City\, playing guttural music of New Orleans with his band Roosevelt Dime. \nMolly’s enviable voice\, which can be called both “biker-chick smoky” (New Haven Register)\, and “like silk” (American Songwriter Magazine)\, has taken her career to highlights including Tønder Festival in Denmark\, Kate Wolf Fest in CA\, and multiple placements on television and film. In Goodnight Moonshine she is in full force as a songwriter. Her trance-induced stream-of-consciousness writing style results in compositions that probe the depths of her inner experience. Her hit song “Hold It All”\, recorded with Red Molly and performed regularly with Goodnight Moonshine\, questions the meaning of life\, and grapples with acceptance\, with honesty and heart usually reserved for literary writers- which she also is- she writes a weekly column on Patreon.com \nStarting as a blues guitarist in his teens\, Eben’s imagination was quickly captured by classic jazz\, which he studied at the Oberlin Conservatory. “Pariser’s harmonic sensibilities are wide\, imaginative” (NPR)\, and his career has involved singing lead and playing bass with Roosevelt Dime\, playing drums and being musical director of Red Molly- but it is his love of jazz and improvising on display in Goodnight Moonshine. A natural producer\, Eben has 8 studio records under his belt for himself and other artists\, and recently launched the new record label\, Equitone Records. \nAfter cutting several records\, and experimenting with limitless creative possibilities of studio production\, Goodnight Moonshine is now thrilling audiences as an acoustic guitar duo. The format allows them to focus entirely on each other’s gifts\, and enter a hypnotic trance\, a cycle of responsive vocal inspiration and guitar improvisation that deepens throughout the show. It is a main-line of the very best that both artists have to offer\, and perhaps why their single-mike show has become an unlikely festival act- in 2023 they are slated to play Arts And Ideas (CT)\, Red Ants Pants (MT)\, and Sisters Folk Fest (OR). \nGuitar and vocal duos are rare and few come to mind\, but the ones that do\, such as Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings\, and The Milk Carton Kids\, have achieved and integration between singular talents in a format that is both genre-less and grounded in the commonness of two guitars\, two voices. Goodnight Moonshine is taking their own stab at this unusual and deeply personal approach. Their show is punctuated by songs and banter that openly explore the complexities of their relationship to each other\, the Creator\, birth\, life\, death\, and what happens when\, “the honeymoon ends?” For Molly and Eben\, It is the way they make space for each other while staying true to themselves that defines this music\, and marriage. \nGoodnight Moonshine has two studio records; their self-titled debut album Goodnight Moonshine (2013)\, and I’m The Only One Who Will Tell You Your Bad (2018)\, as well as two singles; Harder Than It Should Be (2021)\, and What Do You Wanna Know (2022)\, all produced by Pariser. \ngoodnightmoonshine.com/press

SUMMARY:Malvinas Postponed to Sunday 8/17 at 2PM
DESCRIPTION:Covid! \nPostponed til 8/17 \nRSVP to info@lakeviewhouseconcerts.org to reserve a seat. You must get an invitation email from me to attend.\nFor more info about The Malvinas see themalvinas.com/\nCall 508 528 0026 for questions\, please leave a message. \n$25 suggested donation in the tip jar but payment is optional. 100% of the donations go directly to the artists. There are no tickets\, but please RSVP so I know how many will be here. Join us at 6PM here for a potluck dinner. Bring a dish\, we supply drinks and ice cream. \nWith roots all over North America\, the Malvinas pull together a broad palette of regional flavours including: the blues-tinged grooves of the deep South\, the spicy Cajun flavours of Louisiana\, the Celtic modes of Eastern Canada and the groovy troubadour tradition of the Catskill region. Alternating lead vocalists\, tight harmonies and quirky instrumentation (banjo\, guitar\, tenor guitar\, mandolins and violin) create a high energy sound that never forgets that to make great music\, you start with a great song. \nIndividually and collectively\, The Malvinas have been fortunate to work as side women and to share the stage with some really great artists including: Bruce Daigrepont\, Jack Hardy\, Eliza Gilkyson\, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Tim Grimm. Past appearances include: The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival\, Festival Internationale\, The Kerrville Folk Festival and WFMT ‘s Folkstage. \nabout our name “Malvina Reynolds was a singer\, songwriter and activist. Reflecting the cultural and political turmoil of the day\, her powerful\, sometimes somber\, sometimes lighthearted songs address issues still pertinent today: environmental deterioration\, women’s rights\, workers’ rights\, social justice\, and the homogenization of culture.” \nThe malvinas are \nLisa “I am not interested in what you think” Markley (banjo\, guitar and vocals). After graduating from North Texas with a degree in music\, Lisa melted down her trombone to make a belly button ring. Formerly a member of the way cool band Akoustik Nerve\, Lisa is inspired by the music of Joni Mitchell and the Subdudes – and- she thinks that Patricia Barber is just the coolest thing since fresh cilantro. Lisa is also an award winning songwriter with a inimitable groove oriented edge. \nGina “the hopeful romantic” Forsyth (guitar\, violin\, vocals). Since fleeing the Bible Belt an undisclosed number of years ago\, Gina has been (in no particular order): a fiddle player in several Cajun bands\, a folk DJ on a college station\, a college student\, a civil servant\, a movie extra for a day\, and a drummer in a punk rock band for all of five minutes. Her favorite artists include the McGarrigle Sisters\, Ralph Stanley\, Belton Richard\, and a host of friends she has played and recorded with over the last several years. \nBeth “the irritating optimist” Cahill (mandolins\, tenor guitar and vocals). Beth decided to pursue music after nearly being crushed to death at a Violent Femmes concert. She never gets tired of listening to Glenn Gould’s recordings of the Goldberg Variations and trying to explain 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.   Her influences include: Rickie Lee Jones\, The Roches\, and Richard Thompson. She is from Canada and has no sense of humour.
