SUMMARY:Heather Maloney with high Tea
DESCRIPTION:The Massachusetts-based “writer song-singer” found music in the midst of three years at a meditation center\, honing a sound moored in days of silent reflection and reverence for storytellers like Joni\, Rilke\, Ken Burns\, and the anonymous authors of Zen parables. And while she eventually traded the quiet\, structured life as a yogi for the kinetic life a touring musician\, the core of her songwriting remains centered around same curiosity about our inner world and the desire to articulate it through storytelling. She now has eight studio album releases under her belt\, each one marked by inspiring collaborations with musicians\, songwriters and producers. \nOn Heather’s 2019 album\, Soil In The Sky\, her “ability to channel emotion is radical” (PopMatters) and the tracks are stacked with special guests who help her deliver an immense range of sound and sentiment in 12 songs; there’s a duet with Dawes front-man Taylor Goldsmith on the Walt Whitman-inspired love song “We Were Together”\, an appearance by Rachael Price on the album’s opening track “Enigma”\, and Jay Ungar lends his legendary folk fiddle to “Oklahoma Lullaby”\, a song inspired by Ken Burns’ documentary The Dustbowl. (Ungar composed Ashokan Farewell in Burns’ The Civil War). The all-star band includes drummer Griffin Goldsmith (Dawes)\, and multiple members of the Amos Lee band. \nThe Bluegrass Situation called her 2015 release\, Making Me Break (produced by Band of Horses’ Bill Reynolds) “an intoxicating blend that captures the sonic texture of indie rock\, the humanity of folk and the spirituality of a Rumi poem.” \nIn 2014 she released “Woodstock”\, her collaborative effort with Boston quartet Darlingside\, which drew praise from the New York Times and Graham Nash. \nHeather’s songs have played on NPR stations across the country and her live appearances have aired on syndicated programming like eTown and AudioTree. Her song “Nightstand Drawer” was used in the season finale of the CBS TV series “Elementary”\, and her songs have also been featured on a number of editorial Spotify playlists & Starbucks’ in-store nationwide playlists. \nAs well as a songwriter and performer\, Heather is an illustrator and linocut artist who carves and prints visual representations of her songs on a variety of mediums. She considers the integration music and art to be an inspiring new chapter as a creative\, and while most of her growing catalog is reserved for her Patreon community\, she periodically releases limited-edition prints to accompany albums and singles. \nHeather has toured throughout the US & Canada as a headliner and also in support of acts including Lake Street Dive\, Shakey Graves\, Gary Clark Jr.\, Rodrigo y Gabriela\, Colin Hay (Men at Work)\, Mary Chapin Carpenter\, Shawn Colvin\, Dar Williams and many more. https://www.heathermaloney.com/bio \nHIGH TEA: High Tea\, the indie-folk duo hailing from Boston MA\, has been touring with Heather Maloney. Guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Isabella DeHerdt and vocalist/ percussionist Isaac Eliot\, High Tea is a concoction of sweepingly soulful harmonies\, guitar riffs to knock your socks off\, and a refreshing blend of old blues and new pop.

SUMMARY:Sloan Wainwright and Tret Fure at the Linden Tree Coffeehouse in Wakefield
DESCRIPTION:The Linden Tree Coffeehouse presents 38th season finale: \nAn Evening with Sloan Wainwright and Tret Fure \nLIVE IN PERSON!    Sat. May 6th at 7:30 pm \nThe Linden Tree Coffeehouse is presenting its final show of its  38th season  with a special event on Saturday\, May 6 at 7:30pm\, “An Evening with Sloan Wainwright and Tret Fure.” will be held at the Wakefield- UU Church\, 326 Main St. Wakefield.01880 \nLong time friends\,  singer-songwriters  Sloan Wainwright and Tret Fure will be bringing the joy of music and artistry on stage in an upbeat\, energetic and moving evening. For Tret\, this is an encore visit to our stage\, for Sloan\, it’s her first time to the Linden Tree and like her we are excited to have this opportunity. \nSloan Wainwright is a songwriter\, singer\, performer\, teacher\, mentor and collaborator. A unique hybrid of pop\, folk\, jazz and blues\, Wainwright’s music is unified by her melodious tone and rich\, powerful contralto. Over the course of a 30-year career in music\, she has played the great concert halls\, the most storied listening rooms and top music festivals while also teaching at the nation’s leading music retreats. She has inspired hundreds of students on their creative journeys and collaborated with dozens of musicians\, writers\, choreographers and performers. \nMost of all\, Wainwright is an artist. As a member of an acclaimed family of artists (brother Loudon Wainwright\, sister-in-law Kate McGarrigle\, nephew Rufus Wainwright and nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche)\, Wainwright has charted an artistic path all her own\, one based in close observation\, joy\, and spiritual connection. \nIt is said that Sloan’s warm and welcoming contralto voice could “fell a redwood\,” Defying standard categorization\, with 10 original CDs under her belt\, Sloan has a command of a variety of American musical styles: pop\, folk\, jazz and blues. Her incredible gift is not only her unique songwriting ability but also her dramatically voiced rendition of original songs. She performs with power house guitarist Steve Murphy. They will be playing A beautiful new collection of never-released Sloan Wainwright songs connected by the spirit of collaboration:songs from the new CD Red Maple Tree. \nA prolific artist in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena\, Tret Fure has released 17 albums and CDs over the course of her 48 year career.  Her most recent recording is “Stone by Stone\, a collection of very personal and heartful songs. ”To engage with Tret Fure is to feel her warmth\, her humanity and her fierce determination. Tret invites you to be part of her family\, her stories are our stories at once current and timeless\, her lyrics are always well crafted and her music supports and enhances but never overpowers her message. Every album from Tret is a treat and “Stone by Stone” is no exception. Ron Cooke\, KTAL 101.5 FM – Las Cruces\, NM \n“Tret is an award winning singer-songwriter who draws you into her personal world without self-indulgence because her themes are universal and the songs\, well-written. Tret’s also a folk singer\, touching on important issues like gender identity\, and peace.  Her lyrics are lovely\, she can still do it with just a simple guitar and vocal. In one of her songs\, she sings\, “When you think you just can’t sing / You find a better song.” For this performance\, Tret will be bringing new songs from her soon to be released CD\, The Language of Love” \nFure also markets of her own line of clothing named after her popular song “Tomboy girl”. In addition\, Tret teaches guitar and songwriting individually and in workshop settings. She paints pet portraits on commission and\, an accomplished cook\, Fure has also published a cookbook\, “Tret’s Kitchen”\, featuring her own recipes. SUMMARY:Andrew Duhon
DESCRIPTION:It was Leo Tolstoy who said “All great literature is one of two stories; a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town\,” and in the case of Andrew Duhon and his latest album Emerald Blue\, both instances are true. Duhon temporarily left New Orleans\, his longtime home and musical muse in 2019\, finding himself inspired by the landscape of the Pacific Northwest and notably\, its colors—a hue he describes as ‘emerald blue’ for which the album is named\, the same shade looking back at him in his partner’s eyes. Had he overlooked the specific shade of her eyes while living below sea level? Or did the change of location open his mind more acutely? The record does just that: examine the familiar in the context of the unfamiliar. Emerald Blue is a probing appreciation of the dailiness of life; a note-taking exercise in living. \nDuhon channeled his new perspective into an eleven song collection\, calling on friends and collaborators including Jano Rix on drums\, percussion\, and harmonies; Myles Weeks on upright and electric basses and harmonies; and Dan Walker on keys and accordion. Duhon returned South for the recording process\, finding comfort and creativity in Maurice\, Louisiana’s storied Dockside Studios with GRAMMY-award winning engineer and longtime collaborator of Andrew’s\, Trina Shoemaker\, to capture every inch of vibe and beauty and texture each song had to offer. \nEmerald Blue in the news: \n“Andrew Duhon looks for a better balance to life on new ‘Emerald Blue’” via Gambit Weekly \nDuhon muses on the kindness of strangers and fly fishing for Coastal Angler \n“Faintly reminiscent of early M Ward and artists like Beachwood Sparks\, Bonnie “Prince” Billy\, Sparklehorse or Damien Jurado\, ‘Emerald Blue’ sits happily at the crossroads of harmony-drenched pop\, rustic americana\, Appalachian folk and about a half-dozen other styles\, all meeting and mixing around the warmth of Duhon’s vocals; world-weary\, stretched and full of soul.” –Holler \nDuhon is “a teller of stories with an undeniable voice\, weighted and soulful.” –KPCW/NPR \nNo Depression calls the album “effortless\,” noting “Duhon reminds us that everything comes in its time: adventure\, loneliness\, tragedy and — yes\, even if it’s fleeting — contentment.” \nFans can watch the music video for “Emerald Blue” at this link\, check out previously-released singles “Everybody Colored Their Own Jesus” and “Castle On Irish Bayou.” Duhon’s tour picks back up tonight in Lafayette\, LA before continuing throughout the Southeast and then over to the Pacific Northwest in late summer. SUMMARY:First Church Dedham Friday Folk Coffeehouse Presents Andrew Innes and the Reluctant Ramblers on 5/19!
DESCRIPTION:Friday Folk Coffeehouse at First Church Dedham\n670 High Street\, Dedham\, MA\n(781) 326-7463\nContact: Geoff Tegnell\nFirst Church Friday Folk Coffeehouse presents its eighth concert of the 2022-2023 season featuring Andrew Innes & The Reluctant Ramblers at First Church and Parish Dedham 670 High Street\, Dedham on Friday\, May 19\, 2023 at 7:30 pm in the Auditorium. There will be refreshments for purchase.  Tickets are $10 and are available online at Folk Coffeehouse | dedhamuu and at the door.  Doors open at 7:00 pm. \nAndrew Innes The Reluctant Ramblers make their first appearance at the Friday Folk Coffeehouse at First Church Dedham. The Ramblers draw their material primarily from Andrew’s original songs which are rooted in the slower\, dreamier side of indie-folk\, blues\, Americana and bluegrass.  Andrew Innes (Acoustic Guitar & Vocals) has been studying and performing music for almost 40 years. Andrew started at the age of 16 with harmonica and piano\, and then picked up saxophone in his senior year of high school. Over the years Andrew has fronted various jazz groups on alto and tenor saxophones; played washboard\, musical saw and harmonica with the wonderful NYC-based bluegrass/western swing band\, The Bootleg Remedy.  Andrew played saxophone and harmonica with indie-chamber pop supergroup Champale (featuring members of Clem Snide\, Luna & Nada Surf) and spent two years in the house band for the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. He performed for many years with Uncle Jimmy’s Dirty Basement\, a provocatively unlikely collaboration between Henson-level puppeteers and an avant-garde rock band and added musical saw\, saxophones and accordion to the cinematic soundscapes of the instrumental band\, Anchor Tattoo. In recent years Andrew has shifted his primary focus to guitar\, dobro\, singing\, and songwriting and can be seen in the Boston area fronting the Reluctant Ramblers\, playing with the AKE Trio\, and accompanying singer-songwriter Carla Ryder. Check out www.weescotsman.com to sign up for Andrew’s email list and find out about upcoming shows. \nEric Smalley (Upright bass) and Kim Patch (Fiddle) play with many groups in the Boston area including The Rozzicats\, Louder Than Milk\, Creek River String Band & the Bookmatch Duo. Tim Obetz (Pedal Steel) has performed and recorded with many musicians and bands in the Boston-area including Buffalo Tom\, Will Dailey\, Terry Kitchen\, Buttercup\, and The Pineapple Ranch Hands. \nFirst Church and Parish Dedham Unitarian Universalist was first gathered in 1638 and is located in Dedham Center at 670 High Street. Its lively music program includes choir at Sunday services\, the Parish Players theater troupe\, and the Concerts at First Church Saturday classical concert series\, in addition to our Friday Folk Coffeehouse events.

SUMMARY:Side-splitting Silliness with Deb Seymour & Stan Lyness at PCA
DESCRIPTION:WESTFORD\, MA: Join two of the funniest songwriters you’ll ever know for an evening of satire\, parody and silliness!  The duo of Deb Seymour and Stan Lyness will be taking the stage at the Parish Center for the Arts\, 10 Lincoln Street on May 27 at 7pm (Doors open 6:30pm). For ticket reservations and more information\, visit pcawestford.org. \nHow exactly does one sum up the whimsical songwriter Deb Seymour? According to a fan\, “Joni Mitchell meets Lucille Ball.” Deb Seymour writes songs that tickle your funny bone and pull at your heart strings. She is a master musical storyteller whose songs range from hitch-hiking chickens and tango-dancing Martians to blues-influenced torch songs. She plays at wineries\, festivals\, house concerts\, cafes and listening rooms. Deb is a skilled\, award-winning guitarist and singer who counts four albums of original material (currently working on the 5th). She also simulcasts her popular livestream\, “Brunch w/Deb” on her Facebook and YouTube channels every Sunday\, whether on the road or not. Her fans call themselves “Deb-Heads” and tune in from the USA\, Canada\, UK\, Germany\, Israel and Australia. \nPlaying alongside Deb is musician and satirist Stan Lyness\, a Boston-area songwriter with an unshakeable faith that\, at its core\, the universe is funny and can be forced to rhyme. Stan will leave you between stitches and tears with his witty repartee and sardonic humor. He was first moved to write by an excruciatingly dull high school social studies class\, and has ever since taken up the pen whenever things get slow. He now finds himself in “an enormously productive period.” \nSit\, chat\, sing and laugh ‘til your sides ache during Seymour & Lyness’ fun concert at the Parish Center for the Arts (PCA)\, located at 10 Lincoln Street on Westford Common. Bring your own food and drink for a complete evening of entertainment. Limited cabaret-style seating. Doors open at 6:30pm; show begins at 7pm.
