Masks encouraged. \nTickets\nEmma’s Revolution is excited to come to the UU Society of Rockport to raise the roof on the Saturday before Election Day! Let’s do all we can to Get Out the Vote! \nKnown for fearless\, truth-telling lyrics and melodies you can’t resist singing\, Emma’s Revolution is the dynamic\, award-winning activist duo of Pat Humphries & Sandy O. The duo are in their 20th year performing together. Emma’s Revolution’s songs have traveled around the world and have been sung for the Dalai Lama\, praised by Pete Seeger and covered by Holly Near. \nWith one eye on the news\, Emma’s Revolution consistently writes songs about critical issues happening in the world and enthusiastically lends their voices to the movements those issues inspire. “Our House is on Fire” was selected as the opening track for Hope Rises\, a compilation CD from a national nonprofit co-founded by Noel (Paul) Stookey of Peter\, Paul & Mary. “Keep on Moving Forward” opened the UN’s Committee on the Status of Women’s Bejiing+25 Conference. The song originally opened the NGO Forum of the 4th UN World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995\, becoming its unofficial anthem. Emma’s Revolution are winners of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest Grand Prize and the first Phil Ochs Award.  \n“Our work has always been about building connection\, love and justice through song\,” the duo says. “During this pandemic\, we have moved much of our work online\, creating opportunities for people to sing together (Zoom-style)\, use songwriting as a way to process emotions in an unsettled era\, and attend concerts where they can have a sense of connectedness\, solace and even joy in this challenging time.”  \nAs independent artists and queer and non-conforming women\, Emma’s Revolution has a national presence among communities\, organizations and venues that share the duo’s vision of valuing people over profit\, choosing compassion over violence\, demanding accountability\, and building a more just and sustainable world.

SUMMARY:Tom Paxton and The DonJuans
DESCRIPTION:“Every folk singer I know has either sung a Tom Paxton song\, is singing a Tom Paxton song or will soon sing a Tom Paxton song. Now either all the folk singers are wrong\, or Tom Paxton is one hell of a songwriter.” (Holly Near) \n“Tom’s songs have a way of sneaking up on you. You find yourself humming them\, whistling them\, and singing a verse to a friend. Like the songs of Woody Guthrie\, they’re becoming part of America.” (Pete Seeger) \nTom Paxton has become a voice of his generation\, addressing issues of injustice and inhumanity\, laying bare the absurdities of modern culture and celebrating the tenderest bonds of family\, friends\, and community. \nPaxton has been an integral part of the songwriting and folk music community since the early 60’s Greenwich Village scene\, and continues to be a primary influence on today’s “New Folk” performers. The Chicago native came to New York via Oklahoma\, which he considers to be his home state. His family moved there in 1948\, when Tom was 10 years old\, and he graduated from Bristow High School and The University of Oklahoma\, where he majored in drama while his interest in folk music grew and eventually predominated. \nBrought to New York courtesy of the US Army\, Tom remained there following his discharge. His early success in Greenwich Village coffeehouses\, such as The Gaslight and The Bitter End\, led to an ever-increasing circle of work. Then in 1965 he made his first tour of the United Kingdom — the beginning of a still-thriving professional relationship that has included at least one tour in each of the succeeding years. \nHe has performed thousands of concerts around the world in countries such as Australia\, New Zealand\, Japan\, Hong Kong\, Scandinavia\, France\, Italy\, Belgium\, Holland\, England\, Scotland\, Ireland and Canada. That these fans still enjoy his work is a testament to the quality of his recent work\, and to the enduring power of modern standards like The Last Thing On My Mind\, Ramblin’ Boy\, Bottle Of Wine\, Whose Garden Was This?\, Goin’ To The Zoo and The Marvelous Toy. Paxton’s songbooks\, critically acclaimed children’s books (available from HarperCollins – see the page for children)\, award-winning children’s recordings\, and a catalog of hundreds of songs (also recorded by many renowned artists including Willie Nelson\, Placido Domingo\, Paul Simon\, Townes Van Zandt and Tiny Tim)\, all serve to document Tom Paxton’s 40-year career. \nHe is one of the great songwriters of the last century and will be reckoned as one of the greats in this new century\, as well. He is a man we have come to regard as our friend. \nhttps://www.tompaxton.com/ \n  \nThe DonJuans is a musical duo comprised of two GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriters\, Don Henry and Jon Vezner. \nDon and Jon have performed in venues from the Bottom Line in New York City to the Bluebird Café in Nashville\, sharing stages with artists as diverse as Joey Ramone\, John Hartford\, Michael Johnson\, and David Crosby. Their songs have been recorded by a multitude of artists including Janis Ian\, Ray Charles\, John Mellencamp\, and Miranda Lambert to name a few. Working as a duo\, the DonJuans bring an impressive array of songs\, experience\, and gifted musicianship. \nhttps://www.thedonjuans.com/

SUMMARY:Antje Duvecot\, Erin Ash Sullivan Opening
DESCRIPTION:Antje Duvekit first appeared on our radar back in the early 2000s. Continuing the Stone Soup tradition of supporting up-and-coming artists\, we asked Antje to open for Ellis Paul at one of our shows. Nowl\, we are thrilled to welcome Antje back to perform at the Music Mansion for the first time on October 12\, 2024.  Opening for Antje will be Erin Ash Sullivan. We are located at 88 Meeting St\, Providence\, RI 02906. Tickets are $25\, and are available at the door or with reservation through our website. All tickets must be purchased at the time of the reservation. We accept VENMO. \nParking at The Music Mansion at 88 Meeting St\, Providence\, RI 02906 is limited and carpooling\, ride-sharing\, and mass transit are highly encouraged. There is also available parking on Benefit Street\, a short set of stairs will lead you right up to the Music Mansion.  \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nAntje Duvekot has solidified her reputation as one of Boston’s top singer songwriters with “Big Dream Boulevard” her debut studio release and “the Near Demise of the Highwire Dancer” and “New Siberia” her follow-up albums. The debut CD was produced by Seamus Egan\, founder of the Irish super group\, SOLAS and the project was released on songwriter Ellis Paul’s label and quickly attracted international attention for Antje. It was voted “#1 Folk Release of 2006” by the Boston Globe and was named to the “Top10 Releases of the Year” by National Public Radio’s\, Folk Alley. Her follow up albums “the Near Demise of the Highwire Dancer” and “New Siberia” were produced by Richard Shindell and along side with Richard feature other “folk royalty” such as John Gorka\, Lucy Kaplancky and Mark Erelli. \nRichard Shindell said “What a blessing to have worked with someone as talented as Antje. With a voice like hers\, and songs as good as these\, a producer (especially a first-time producer!) just tries to get out of the way\, to do no harm\, and to let the artist speak for herself.” The Boston Globe said\,  “Duvekot has gotten hotter\, faster than any local songwriter in recent memory. Her songs feel at once fresh faced and firmly rooted\, driven by the whispery sensuality of her voice” \nAntje has won some of the top songwriting awards including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition\, the prestigious\, Kerrville (TX) “Best New Folk Award” and in one of the nation’s top music markets\, she won the Boston Music Award for “Outstanding Folk Act”\, three of the top prizes in the singer songwriter world. She is a compelling live performer and has been invited to play some of the top festivals including The Newport Folk Festival as well as the Mountain Stage\, Philadelphia and Kerrville Festivals. Internationally\, she’s headlined the The Celtic Connections Festival in Scotland and the Tonder Festival in Denmark. \nOpening for Antje Duvekot will be Erin Ash Sullivan\, a Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter who considers herself a New Englander even though her family did not move to this area until she was in middle school. She has won numerous songwriting awards\, including the Rose Garden Coffeehouse Performing Songwriter Competition\, the Mark Erelli Judge’s Choice Award in the New England Songwriting Competition\, the Great American Song Contest (finalist) and the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (finalist).

SUMMARY:Rob Flax's Boom Chick Trio\, Marc Delgado opens
DESCRIPTION:Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for those age 18 and under. Visit oldslooppresents.org\, John Tarr Store in Rockport\, or The Bookstore of Gloucester. The suggested contribution at the door is $25 for adults\, $5 for those age 18 and under\, and $50 for families. \nTickets and more information\nRob Flax possesses a rare combination of skills: he is an award-winning virtuoso violinist\, classically trained but known for his jazz and improvisational pyrotechnics and irresistible grooves; he is also a powerhouse vocalist\, capable of silky crooning a la Nat King Cole or visceral Chicago blues shouts. \nFor many years Rob performed mostly solo—it takes a special kind of musician to keep pace with Rob’s stylistic breadth and depth!—but after much searching he’s finally found a band that can keep up: Rob Flax’s Boom Chick Trio is a new “supergroup” that features Slava Tolstoy on guitar and Max Ridley on bass. Max and Slava both are incredible instrumentalists who have chops for days\, but know how to balance their prowess in service of the song. \nTogether\, the three string-wielding maestros have forged a powerful group dynamic\, developed over years of gigging and concerts\, and the result is an interplay that will bring a smile to your face!

SUMMARY:Pete & Maura Kennedy @Linden Tree Concerts
DESCRIPTION:PETE AND MAURA KENNEDY back at  LINDEN TREE CONCERTS                            Saturday\, October 5\, 2024 \nThe Linden Tree Concert series is excited to bring back Pete and Maura Kennedy to Wakefield on Saturday\,October 5 at 7:30 pm.  Often seen on festival stages around the country\, their visits to coffeehouses are extra special.  The Kennedys are an American folk-rock band recognized for their harmonies and instrumental prowess\, blending elements of country music\, bluegrass\, Western swing and janglepop. \nThe Kennedys began performing together in 1992\, shortly after they met while on the road with Nanci Griffith. The pair’s musical influences are quite eclectic from Buddy Holly\, the Everly Brothers\, the Beatles\, and the Byrds\, but also jazz\, blues\, and world music.  With over 14 recordings as the Kennedys and many recorded individually and with others\, Pete and Maura have no plans to slow down either on tour or in creating music. \nTheir latest recording Headwinds\, their title track\, shows their love of the United States. Political and social headwinds are making it hard to get back home to our greatness as a nation. The duo want to push back in a positive way against those winds. The thirteen songs are cast in a soundscape that draws from American roots. With a mix of instruments which includes a vintage steel guitar and  a slide Ukulele\, Pete and Maura believe that these sounds will have the power to pull us through again.   https://www.kennedysmusic.com \nTickets will be $25\, cash or check at the door. Tickets for those under 13 are $10. Reservations are recommended for preferential seating by calling 781-246-2836. In our area\, shows featuring The Kennedys are popular. \nThe Linden Tree Concerts are now held in the social hall of the Wakefield Lynnfield United Methodist Church\, 273 Vernon St.  Wakefield\, MA 01880.  Easy to find from 95.  Parking Lot by church rear entrance.  Handicapped access too.  www.LindenTreeCoffeehouse.org
