SUMMARY:Thomas Csorba
DESCRIPTION:Thomas Csorba is a songwriter who writes for the long arc — songs not just for now\, but for always.. He doesn’t chase trends or flash. Instead\, he writes with a reverence for language\, for melody\, and for the invisible threads that connect a life. Csorba already has some impressive notches on his belt\, opening for acclaimed acts like John Moreland\, Amanda Shires\, Yola\, Paul Cauthen\, Red Shahan\, Briscoe\, Parker Millsap\, and many others With several albums and EPs under his belt\, Thomas has earned respect from his peers and the press with the Houston Chronicle writing “Is Thomas Csorba the next great Texas songwriter?” Csorba has no plans to stop the steady march forward\, because for him\, this isn’t about the next big thing — it’s about the next true song. And if Windchimes is any indication\, he’s just getting to the good part.

SUMMARY:Spencer LaJoye
DESCRIPTION:This concert will be indoors in the hosts’ living room and capacity will be limited to 30. The suggested contribution is $20\, payable at the door by cash\, check\, or Venmo. Send email to info@whalecove.org to get more information or to request an invitation. \nSpencer LaJoye is making queer indie folk music for everyone. They are a coast-to-coast singer/songwriter and vocal loop artist with Midwest roots\, a classically-trained violinist with an inner theater kid’s love of group choreography\, and a student of Americana music with a theology degree hanging in their studio. The 2021 Kerrville Songwriting Competition winner and 2024 Songwriter Serenade winner has been writing and touring their autobiographical folk songs for over a decade\, but their viral 2021 anthem “Plowshare Prayer” secured them a permanent place in hearts and households across the world\, as well as a peculiar career as a veracious songsmith with an unshakeable pastoral presence. Charming and banter-heavy\, Spencer’s performances keep audiences laughing one moment and weeping the next.

SUMMARY:Pamela Means at Harmony on the Green\, Kim Moberg opens
DESCRIPTION:Harmony on the Green is thrilled to present a fantastic evening with two of Boston’s pre-eminent talents\, award winning singer/songwriters Pamela Means and Kim Moberg. \nPamela Means is an Easthampton MA-based\, multiple award-winning\, singer-songwriter and jazz musician. Protest anthem writing\, Biracial\, Queer\, Artist-Activist and\, “one of the fiercest guitar players and politically-rooted musicians in the industry today\,” (Curve Magazine) – who’s worn a hole in two of her guitars – with her “insanely brilliant” (Press Herald\, Portland ME) and “stark\, defiant songs.” (New York Times) \nOpening for Means is Kim Moberg\, whose rich vocals\, described as “a blend of honey and whiskey”\, gently guide listeners through her musical stories while her compositions tug at feelings of melancholy\, heartbreak\, healing and social consciousness. Moberg is an Alaska native\, who suffered a lifetime of debilitating stage fright. In 2014 she set out to overcome that stage fright and wrote her first song. Kim teamed with Grammy nominated producer Jon Evans to record three albums\, all receiving critical acclaim and charting on the Folk Alliance International DJ charts. Kim’s third release “The Seven Fires Prophecy Suite for Humanity” (2023) is an original 8 song suite that tells the ancient yet relevant Anishinaabe legend “The Seven Fires Prophecy”. Her newest project “All That Really Matters” addresses the arc of human emotion from loss and betrayal to prejudice and melancholy to the most important – love. \nHarmony on the Green is wheelchair accessible from our front door on Massachusetts Avenue. Once inside there is an elevator up to Clark Hall. We have single user accessible bathrooms on the first floor and next to the hall. Ample free parking including accessible spaces are available in the back of the building\, and there is parking on both sides of Mass Ave with one or two accessible spots. SUMMARY:Abbie Gardner - Jenna Nichols opens
DESCRIPTION:Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for those age 18 and under. Visit oldslooppresents.org\, John Tarr Store in Rockport\, or The Bookstore of Gloucester. The suggested contribution at the door is $25 for adults\, $5 for those age 18 and under\, and $50 for families. \nTickets and more information\nAbbie Gardner is a fiery dobro player with an infectious smile. Whether performing solo or with Americana harmony trio Red Molly\, her acclaimed tales of love and loss\, both gritty and sweet\, are propelled by her impeccable lap style slide guitar playing. Solo performances feature the dobro as a solo instrument\, bouncing between a solid rhythmic backbone and ripping lead lines\, all in support of her voice and songs. Her latest recording\, DobroSinger\, hit #11 on the Billboard Blues Chart. It’s intimate\, real and raw – her dobro and voice recorded at the same time at home\, without a band or any studio tricks to hide behind. You can hear every breath\, every chuckle\, as if you are in the room with her. \nHailing from the small town of Irwin\, PA\, Jenna Nicholls set her sights east to test her wings as a songwriter and performer. Initially trying Boston\, she ultimately gravitated to the creative hotbed of Manhattan’s Lower East Side where she forged lasting friendships with other like-minded artists and musicians. Nicholls made three albums on her own dime: Curled Up Toes in Red Mary Janes\, The Blooming Hour\, and Radio Parade. The albums revealed a restless muse and a theme that would be a constant for Nicholls: a love of vintage music – anything from classic music films like “Singin’ in the Rain” to Bessie Smith.

SUMMARY:Sara Grey and Kieron Means House Concert
DESCRIPTION:$20 at the door ($5 for students)\nReservations required: HouseConcerts@fssgb.org \nSara Grey is one of the most gifted and knowledgeable artists working in the field of traditional music. Sara’s singing is both powerful and sweet\, with a distinctive and lovely tremolo. It is a voice well suited to native American songs and ballads of Ireland and Scotland. \nIt is not Sara’s lovely voice alone that makes her one of the most popular singers on the folk scene; on many of her songs Sara accompanies herself by frailing a five string banjo and\, when playing dance tunes\, it is obvious why she is regarded as one of the foremost exponents of the clawhammer style. As well as singing and playing\, Sara is well known for her storytelling – specializing in stories from New England where she grew up learning many of her stories from her father. \n“She is one of a select band of performers who still breathe life into traditional ballads.” Vic Smith\, Folk Roots\n“Sara Grey has quietly and powerfully taken over the mantle of premier interpreter of American traditional music.” Tor Jonassen\, WRD \nSara grew up in New Hampshire but has lived in North Carolina\, Ohio\, Montana\, New York\, Pennsylvania\, Arizona\, Wales\, Scotland and England. As a youngster in North Carolina she developed a love for old time songs and banjo music. She cites Kyle Creed as the chief influence on her understated\, syncopated clawhammer banjo style. She has now been performing professionally for more than 30 years. \nKieron Means is a singer primarily of traditional songs but also of contemporary songs and guitar player of great merit. He has a great rapport with an audience and has an exceptional professionalism for a young performer. His voice is as smooth as silk\, rich and mellow and he sings to his audience not in spite of them. \nKieron is the son of the traditional singer Sara Grey and music journalist Andrew Means\, one time writer for Melody Maker. He was born in the United States and grew up in Britain gaining a great love of the music of both traditions as well as the contemporary scene. He has become a performer of traditional songs from the US and from the UK and many of the contemporary songs he sings he has written himself. \nHe has toured in the States and often performed with Sara Grey. In 2000 he has performed at Whitby and Wadebridge festivals where he was received with much acclaim. His first CD has received much praise with air play on Travelling Folk and Mr Anderson’s Fine Tunes both on radio Scotland. An article on him will shortly be appearing in Folk Roots magazine.

SUMMARY:Cliff Eberhardt
DESCRIPTION:Cabaret Seating. BYOB & Snacks. Doors Open at 7:00 PM \n$20 Members/ $22 non-members in advance ; $25 at the door (if available) \n  \n\n\n\n\nCliff Eberhardt knew by age seven that he was going to be a singer and songwriter. Growing up in Berwyn (PA)\, he and his brothers sang together and their parents played instruments. His dad introduced him to the guitar and he quickly taught himself to play. Fortunate enough to live close to the Main Point (one of the best folk clubs on the East Coast)\, he cut his teeth listening to the likes of James Taylor\, Joni Mitchell\, Bruce Springsteen\, Howlin’ Wolf\, Muddy Waters\, Bonnie Raitt\, and Mississippi John Hurt — receiving an early and impressive tutorial in acoustic music. At the same time\, he was also listening to great pop songwriters like Cole Porter\, the Gershwins\, and Rodgers and Hart\, which explain his penchant for great melodies and clever lyrical twists. After a successful whirlwind of a career in the industry\, in 2021\, Cliff released “Knew Things” – a new album of original songs which reached #4 on the Folk Alliance International’s Folk Radio Chart. Touring constantly\, Cliff is well-known as a songwriting teacher all over the U.S. at songwriting camps and private lessons. He also produces\, arranges and advises on other artist’s recordings. SUMMARY:The Mammals
DESCRIPTION:“The Mammals tell stories that are at once topical and timeless\, bearing a message of hope  and empowerment with a modern string-band sound.”\n– Freshgrass Festival \n“The Woody/Pete spirit of the 1940s-’50s can be found more vibrantly in their music than anywhere else in 2025 . . . their music deeply deserves to be heard from the redwood forest to the Gulf Stream waters.”\n– No Depression \n“A party band with a conscience”\n– Boston Globe \nIndie-roots trailblazers\, high-octane Americana from rafter-raising to hear-a-pin-drop balladry.\nThere has always been something disarmingly human about The Mammals. Long before culture fractured into its current bewildering kaleidoscope of noise and contradiction\, they were already tending to the quiet\, essential work: remembering the stories that hold people together\, and singing them with an honesty that resists corrosion. Their music feels less like performance and more like a gathering—a return to the communal spaces where truth is spoken gently\, without spectacle. \nFormed by Mike Merenda and Ruth Ungar\, The Mammals emerged from the fertile soil of folk tradition\, but not as preservationists. They listened closely to the past but their instinct was always restorative rather than nostalgic. They carried forward the lineage of protest music\, family harmony\, and grassroots resilience\, weaving them into something alive\, awake\, and stunningly contemporary. Their songs carry the emotional clarity of people who understand what is at stake—not just politically\, but spiritually\, culturally\, even ecologically. \nThe Mammals make music for a world that is forgetting how to listen. In their harmonies is a reminder that truth is rarely loud\, that connection can be a form of resistance\, and that art—when rooted in sincerity—can help us navigate even the most unsettled times.\nIn an era defined by fracture\, The Mammals remain devoted to wholeness: to the places they sing about\, the communities they nurture\, and the fragile\, enduring human spirit at the center of it all. \nFrom https://www.themammals.love/about

SUMMARY:Richard Shindell
DESCRIPTION:Innovative\, original and occasionally spiritual\, Shindell’s songs weave tales that interchangeably champion the downtrodden\, exalt the disaffected or wax empathetic to those lost to society’s fringes. From lighthearted ballads and adulterous love songs\, to dirges and diatribes that skillfully skewer politics\, prejudice\, war and religion\, to the comic point-of-view of a cow stuck in a barbed wire fence\, he has a unique ability to morph into the soul of the many and varied personalities he casts as narrators in certain songs—veritable novellas framed in haunting acoustic melodies.

SUMMARY:Suitcase Junket at Children and The Arts Festival
DESCRIPTION:Peterborough Folk Music is pleased to present Suitcase Junket at the Children and The Arts Festival on May 16\, 2026\, in the field behind The Monadnock Center for History and Culture. Watch for announcements from Children and The Arts about the many events for the day including a parade. Always a wonderful town event. \nCHILDREN and THE ARTS  https://www.childrenandthearts.org \nQUOTES: \n“A living\, breathing\, throat-singing\, road-tested\, avant-garde\, one-man-band who is in a state of perpetual motion… gutsy\, fuzzed-out\, groove-laden psych rock.” – NPR \n“Bluesy guitar riffs\, tenacious melodies and a singing voice both weathered and nimble. You don’t need to witness his physics-defying performance to be captivated; the music stands on its own… astonishing.”  – WBUR Boston \nABOUT: \nThe Suitcase Junket — the touring project of the artist Matt Lorenz — developed in the tension between the grand and the solitary. Grand in imagery\, sound\, and staging. Solitary in thrift and self-reliance. NPR calls Lorenz a “master of musical imagination.” What instruments he requires\, Lorenz builds from scratch and salvage. What parts five players would perform\, he performs alone. The spectacle of the one-man show bears comparison to legends of showmanship\, brilliance\, madness\, and invention. While audiences are captivated by that solitary form and the show itself\, Lorenz\, who homesteads in Western Massachusetts\, is most serious about the songs. The world he writes into existence is crowded with characters\, narratives\, voices\, imagery\, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes\, plus newsreels of the planet’s destruction and salvage. Lorenz’ most recent album The End is New was released at Renew Records / BMG. He is in the studio this winter\, recording toward a new release. \nhttps://concertedefforts.com/artist/suitcase-junket

SUMMARY:Rachel Sumner & Traveling Light
DESCRIPTION:Rachel Sumner is no stranger to the stage. She spent her early career on the bluegrass circuit\, singing and writing with the genre-bending Boston group Twisted Pine. Since setting out on her own\, Sumner’s songs have been critically acclaimed\, winning the Lennon Award in the folk category of the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for her song “Radium Girls (Curie Eleison);” earning her a spot in the Kerrville New Folk Competition; and being chosen four consecutive years by WBUR/NPR as one of the top Massachusetts entries in the Tiny Desk Competition. \nSince winning the 2023 Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival band competition\, Rachel Sumner & Traveling Light have been captivating audiences throughout the northeast and beyond. Sumner’s lyric-forward writing and penchant for snaking chord progressions demand something far beyond folk conventions\, highlighting the acrobatic range of her brilliant bandmates Kat Wallace (fiddle) and Mike Siegel (upright bass). \nHer new album\, “Heartless Things\,” marks a significant evolution in Sumner’s studio sound\, stepping out from the acoustic string band framework of her debut album. This new record blends elements of chamber-folk and indie pop with Sumner’s love of Appalachian balladry and bluesy hooks\, resulting in an immersive setting that highlights the top-notch narrative writing we’ve come to expect.

SUMMARY:Christine Lavin & Performing Songwriter Competition - May 16\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:Christine Lavin & finals of our 2026 Performer Songwriter Competition\n$30 + Eventbrite fees in advance / $35 at door \nOur contest finalists will be named in April 2026. We are not yet accepting entries. For details on the contest\, visit our website. \nCHRISTINE LAVIN: \nChristine Lavin started her professional life as a waitress/bread baker at the Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs\, NY in 1975 where she met Dave Van Ronk who encouraged her to study guitar with him in NYC. She took his advice and is now a singer/songwriter/guitarist/recording artist/author/videographer based in New York City. Her latest solo album\, her 25th\, ON MY WAY TO HOOTERVILLE\, includes 10 new songs and one re-worked song\, “Ramblin’ Waltz\,” a re-telling of her time in 1975 when she was an entourage driver for the first week of Bob Dylan‘s iconic “Rolling Thunder Revue” tour. \nIn 2023 Christine released “The Seasons Project\,” an 80-song seasonal compilation that features the work of 63 American\, Canadian\, British and Irish singer/songwriters. Christine assembled this compilation to help guide future historians and folklorists to authentic music being written in the last two decades of the 20th Century and the first two of the 21st Century. \nIn 2024 she is completing her 26th solo album\, DRUM SCHOOL DROPOUT\, hoping to have it completed in 2025. \nIn October 2024 there were 11 performances of “InunDATEd\,” a 90 minute theatrical production that showcased nine of Christine’s songs by the York Theatre in NYC. There will be one more workshop production before the show is released world-wide. The most recent production starred two thrilling Broadway veterans\, Kate Rockwell and Taylor Crousore \nHONORS AND AWARDS: In May 2021 Christine received an Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from her alma mater\, the State University of New York at Brockport. In an odd twist\, she has a younger brother also named Chris (born on Columbus Day) who also in May 2021 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from his alma mater\, Hobart/William Smith Colleges in Geneva\, NY. \nWhat are the odds there would be two Chris Lavins from the same family to both be awarded honorary doctorates one week apart? \nIn September 2019 Christine spent a month at the artist retreat Yaddo in Saratoga Springs. Three of the songs she wrote there are included on her latest HOOTERVILLE album. In April 2019 she was inducted into the Rochester\, NY Music Hall Of Fame along with Al Jardine of The Beach Boys. She received a 2012 Nightlife Award given annually to the best concert and cabaret performers in New York City. In November 2011 her book COLD PIZZA FOR BREAKFAST: A MEM-WHA?? (Tell Me Press\, New Haven) won the 43rd Annual ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for excellence in writing about music. is available in paperback\, kindle\, and audio book formats\, with the foreword written by actor/playwright/singer/songwriter Jeff Daniels. Christine has also won five ASCAP Composer Awards\, The Kate Wolf Memorial Award\, and her album Good Thing He Can’t Read My Mind won Album Of The Year from the National Association Of Independent Record Distributors. \nShe has produced 12 compilations\, and so far these compilations have showcased songs of over 100 songwriters whose work she admires. The food-themed compilation\, ONE MEAT BALL\, includes a 96-page cookbooklet that Christine edited — songs and recipes by Pete Seeger\, Tom Paxton\, Dave Van Ronk\, and many more\, including a surprise appearance by international — and now late — gigastar Dame Edna. Sigh. \nFor four years she hosted “Slipped Disks” on xm satellite radio\, playing CDs slipped to her backstage by compatriots\, and was occasion guest host for City Folk Sunday Supper on WFUV-FM at Fordham University. She also writes freelance for various publications (The Washington Post\, Huffington Post\, St. Petersburg Times\, Performing Songwriter\, and Delta “Sky” Magazine). Her song AMOEBA HOP is a science/music book by illustrator Betsy Franco Feeney (Puddle Jump Press)\, receiving the stamp of approval from The International Society of Protistologists\, and a “Best Book Award” from The American Association for The Advancement of Science. \nTHE PLUTO FILES: THE RISE AND FALL OF AMERICA’S FAVORITE PLANET (W.W. Norton) by Neil deGrasse Tyson\, head of the Hayden Planetarium in NYC\, includes the complete lyrics to Christine’s song “Planet X\,” which details Pluto’s history and planetary status debate in rhyme. Neil included Christine in a live concert event at The Beacon Theater in NYC\, “Comedians & Astronomers\,” and his voice is on that recording\, her 23rd album\, SPAGHETTIFICATION. \nChristine performs concerts all over the US\, Canada\, and points beyond (Australia\, Germany\, Israel)\, often hosting knitting circles and Downton Abbey-style napkin folding backstage at each show. Songs of hers have been performed by artists as diverse as Broadway stars Betty Buckley\, Sutton Foster\, Karen Ziemba\, and Klea Blackhurst\, cabaret divas Andrea Marcovicci. Barbara Brussell\, and Colleen McHugh\, the a cappella Dartmouth Decibelles\, and The Accidentals\, winners of the National Harmony Sweepstakes Championship. \nOn A Winter’s Night\, her first seasonal compilation project\, (20 artists) became a four-artist national tour that first hit the road back in January 1991 and was a five-artist tour that hit the road November 2019\, including Christine\, Cliff Eberhardt\, Patty Larkin\, Cheryl Wheeler\, and John Gorka — only to be abruptly sidelined by the pandemic on March 12\, 2020. The remainder of those dates went on as rescheduled in February/March 2022. \nLATEST PROJECTS: Christine started creating videos for her songs in 2011\, and now creates them for other artists (including Michael Feinstein\, Noel Paul Stookey\, Janis Ian\, Judy Collins\, Craig Werth\, Julie Gold\, David Ippolito and others). \nChristine was the keynote speaker in November 2016 at the annual North East Regional Folk Alliance Conference (NERFA) in Stamford\, CT\, and that keynote address has become the basis for her next book\, which will take up where COLD PIZZA left off. She was also keynote speaker at the Lifespan National Caregivers Conference in 2017 in Huntsvile\, Alabama. \nUntil November 2018\, Ms. Lavin was very involved with the care of her aging mother in Geneva\, NY. She relocated there twice\, while continuing her full time performing in 2010 – 2012\, and then again in 2016\, to help out. She taught herself to make videos to help her mother remember daily events\, having no short term memory. Soon she started making videos for her own music\, and now videos for others. Her mother died in November 2018 at the age of 99-1/2\, and her family cherishes those videos\, which inadvertently spurred Ms. Lavin’s career on in an unexpected direction.

Ray and Sian first became aware of the magic between them while collaborating on several musical projects\, becoming The Black Feathers and life partners in 2012. Americana\, Folk\, and Acoustic Indie Rock sensibilities coexist comfortably in their musical world\, with Hughes’ guitar work buoying the kind of harmonies often only heard in family bands. Their music quickly draws the interest of listeners\, but it is the stage chemistry that will keep them riveted. \nNora Meier is a frequent moviegoer\, a daughter of two English majors\, an Oregonian at heart\, a verbal processor\, a big reader\, extremely stubborn\, and always writing. She was raised on her dad’s curated mixtapes and epic vinyl collection\, which cultivated her deep love for the format of The Album and an obsession with Bruce Springsteen. Her debut album\, Outfield\, was born during a full moon / lunar eclipse on a farm in Connecticut with the help of some of her favorite musicians. Eleven songs were tracked in seven days\, interspersed by basketball scrimmages\, deli trips and walks around a big field.

SUMMARY:"Bound for Glory" (Woody Guthrie tribute show)
DESCRIPTION:$10 Admission for all at the door \nFSSGB is pleased to present “Bound for Glory”\, our Woody Guthrie Tribute show. The show features many FSSGB members and friends\, many of whom have performed in past Woody shows going way back to the 60’s. \n“Bound for Glory” is a performance of songs and stories about the life of Woodrow Wilson (“Woody”) Guthrie\, considered by many to be the founder of modern American folk music. Many wonderful songs written by Woody and performed by members of FSSGB are interspersed with short recitations from his autobiography. It is a funny\, cynical\, earthy and tragic account of his life in an Oklahoma oil-boom town\, of the Depression that followed\, and of his subsequent travels in\, on\, and under trains\, in stolen cars and on his feet\, round an America going rotten from the top downwards. \nChorus sheets are made available and the audience is encouraged to sing along. \nRefreshments will be served at intermission. \nParking: there are small lots on either side of the church\, and there’s some on-street parking in the neighborhood. We’re allowed to park at the middle school next door (75 Church St)\, and there’s a municipal lot at the intersection of Church St and Rt 20 (one block south of the church). See detailed parking guidance for more tips.
