SUMMARY:Carla Ryder & the Blue Ribbons at Niagara Coffee Haus
DESCRIPTION:Carla Ryder & the Blue Ribbons at Niagara Coffee Haus \nJoin us for a fantastic night of live music with Carla Ryder & the Blue Ribbons! \nRock n’ roll flapper\, garage serenader\, front porch chanteuse and country crooner\, Carla Ryder is authentic\, heartfelt fun! She cut her teeth in the Boston Music scene\, as lead singer of the beloved Mudhens in the late 90’s. With that band she opened for the likes of Neil Young\, Beck\, Bob Dylan\, Paul Simon\, Jonatha Brooke\, Primus\, 10\,000 Maniacs\, Cake\, Ben Folds 5\, Guster \, The Push Stars\, Janis Ian\, Bill Staines\, and Jon Pussett Dart. Nominated for a Boston Music Award\, the band went on to record 3 albums with LA producer extraordinaire Anthony Resta\, selling over 12\,000 copies and receiving airplay on national\, local and AAA radio. \nFast forward to the Carla Ryder Band\, she teamed up with producer\, Adam Steinberg and recorded Til The End of Counting which garnered several placements in TV and Film as well as the prestigious International Songwriting Competition\, Billboard Song Contest and Great American Song Contest. Legendary singer/songwriter\, Bill Staines wrote of it\, “Carla is one of the best young songwriters around. I was totally taken with her CD”. \nAfter a short break welcoming the birth of her daughter and twin boys\, Carla joined forces with Amy Fairchild and Andy Santospago to form Miriam\, a honky-tonk swaggering\, country-infused rock n’ roll group featuring dueling female voices backed up by their longtime boot-stompin’ band. After releasing their critically acclaimed album\, “Scenic Two Lane” they quickly garnered a loyal following\, a coveted residency\, and were named Boston’s Best Americana Band in 2016. \nCarla recently hit her stride when she recorded and released Unguarded Heart with Boston favorites. The Blue Ribbons in 2018. Claiming two elusive finalist spots in the International Songwriting Competition as well as the Unsigned Only Competition\, this album reveals a depth of spirit and a window into the struggle and redemption of the human condition. Boston Globe critic Steve Morse\, calls Carla “An aspiring rock singer who seems to get better with each appearance. Almost too versatile to categorize.” \nphotos by Gretjen Helene \n\n\n\n\nCarla & the Ribbons will play two 40 minute sets with a 10 minute intermission. \nFirst set: 8pm to 8:40pm. 2nd set: 8:50pm to 9:30pm \nVisit her website at https://carlaryder.com

SUMMARY:Linden Tree presents Don White with Rob Siegel
DESCRIPTION:Linden Tree Concerts presents Don White in concert\,           \nRob Siegel\,  2022 Potpourri Winner \nNov. 4 at 7:30pm $25 \nThe Linden Tree 39th concert series continues with the often-amusing singer-songwriter Don White on Saturday\, November 4 at 7:30 pm.  Opening the night is Rob Siegel\, audience favorite from  last year’s Winter Potpourri. \nThere is no one-word description for what Don White does. He’s an award-winning singer/songwriter\, a comedian\, an author\, and a storyteller. He’s been bringing audiences to laughter and tears for thirty years\, released ten CDs\, three live DVDs\, and a book\, Memoirs of a C Student. His latest album is Live at the Guthrie Center\, available now. In 2011\, he won the Jerry Christen Memorial Award\, given out by Boston Area Coffeehouse Association\, for his work with the community and that same year was given a key to the city in his hometown of Lynn\, Massachusetts. \nDon’s approach to music is a unique blend. If he just played folk music\, it would be a handy label. But he has invented his own genre with a mix of humor and powerful songwriting. White’s arc as a writer and performer has taken him from his industrial hometown of Lynn\, Massachusetts\, through Boston’s comedy clubs and coffeehouses\, and onto stages around the country. At every point\, White has been the ultimate observer\, infusing his work with his experiences as a husband\, a father\, grandfather\, a seeker\, and a joker. \nWhite has opened for Arlo Guthrie\, Ritchie Havens. Louden Wainwright III\, and Taj Mahal\, shared a bill with David Bromberg\, Janis Ian\, and Lyle Lovett. White has been featured in storytelling festivals around the country including the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough\, Tennessee and the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival in Utah. Since 2015\, he has joined master storytellers Bil Lepp and Bill Harley in Father’s Daze\, a hilarious three-man storytelling show about the triumphs and tribulations of fatherhood. He toured North America for nine years with folk songwriting legend Christine Lavin\, with whom he still plays the occasional show most recently in September. \nRob Siegel is well-known in Boston folk music circles who describes himself as an innovative songwriter who draws from his idyllic yet stressed-out middle-class suburban existence and produces memorable well-crafted songs. Rob has opened for Bill Staines\, Vance Gilbert\, Catie Curtis\, Jack Hardy\, Geoff Muldaur\, and others. His 2000 debut CD Shaker Chair received airplay on the WUMB radio network\, and his 2004 CD Voices from the Right Brain reached #52 on the FolkDJ ranking\, which isn’t bad for a geophysicist who rarely traveled outside Massachusetts for a gig. Rob took his foot off the gigging pedal in the mid-2000s when he projected the college bills for his three kids\, but now that they’re grown\, he’s back. His first new CD in 14 years\, A Landscape of Ghosts\, was released in 2018 at a sold-out show at Club Passim and charted on FolkDJ.” Songs from his repertoire were our audience favorites naming him as Linden Tree’s Winter Potpourri Winner 2022. \nTickets will be $25\, cash or check at the door. Tickets for those under 13 are $10. Reservations for preferential seating are by calling 781-246-2836 .Linden Tree Concerts are held in Wakefield UU Church 326 Main St. Wakefield\, MA 01880 \nWe thank the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, Wakefield Chapter for supporting our concert series that has allowed us to bring quality programming to our community.  Linden Tree also  supports Fair Trade Music Local 1000. For more information see www.LindenTreeCoffeehouse.org and our Facebook page.

The single\, “All the Things I Left Behind” and “Room in the City” are stand out tracks. \nCliff”s songs have been recorded by many folks including Richie Havens\, Buffy Sainte Marie\, and Shawn Colvin.  The New York Post says\, “Eberhardt sings with passion and with wit…what makes his brand so rare is the self-assurance and poise he brings to his nearly flawless show.”  www.cliffeberhardt.net. \nGrowing up on a cattle farm\, riding horses and writing poetry\, Louise Mosrie began writing pop and folk songs after college.  With a move to Nashville in 2004\, she began co-writing with country\, bluegrass\, and folk artists which led to her 2008 album\, “Home\,”  filled with stories and songs about southern life. \nIn 2014\, Louise recorded ten songs of love\, loss\, and surrender in her album\, “Lay It Down.” Collaborating with Cliff Eberhardt\, the album was released to critical praise and made several top 10 lists in folk radio.   Her latest album “Home” was released in 2022. “Louise Mosrie may well be the brightest young folk-oriented artist to emerge from Nashville in many a year.” – Rich Warren\, WFMT-FM\, The Midnight Special\, Chicago. \nLouise is an award-winning songwriter earning top awards at  Kerrville Folk\, Telluride Bluegrass\, and Falcon Ridge Folk festivals.   www.louisemosrie.com \nTickets will be $25\, cash or check at the door. SUMMARY:Slaid Cleaves
DESCRIPTION:“A master storyteller\, one influenced not by the shine of pop-culture but by the dirt of real life.” – Joseph Hudak\n— Rolling Stone Country \n3/3/23 Slaid Cleaves releases his latest album\, TOGETHER THROUGH THE DARK. \nTwelve new songs amid the 100\,000 that get uploaded to Spotify every day (according to hypebot.com). Will any of them rise above the din enough to be heard? So far\, a few of them have been hanging out with the likes of young Americana superstars Charlie Crocket and Margo Price on the Americana Music Association album and singles charts\, as well as the popular Spotify playlist\, The Pulse of Americana. \nIt’s Cleaves’ second release on Candy House Media\, which consists of himself and his wife and manager\, Karen Cleaves\, with hired gun Angela Backstrom promoting to Americana radio. It’s one of the rare self-releases on the charts\, and the early success of the first few singles is a testament to the consistent quality of Cleaves’ output over the past 25 years\, and to the bond he’s built and maintained with the dedicated music lovers at Americana radio since its inception in the mid 1990s. \nSlaid teamed up with producer Scrappy Jud Newcomb for the third time in early 2022 to record a new batch of songs\, Slaid’s first in five years. Familiar themes of struggle and resilience will be a surprise to no one. TOGETHER THROUGH THE DARK digs into the crucial moments and experiences that shape our journeys. A kind word when it’s needed most\, the effort to act honorably in dark and violent times\, the wisdom of a barfly\, the majesty of rock and roll\, the dignity of work and the enduring grace provided by true love. \nAs Scrappy puts it\, “This album speaks to the hopeful\, the hard working\, the battered\, confused\, and the sad. But above all to the believers in the city of freedom that we heard in the stories of our youth and all those FM radio hits.” \nTOGETHER THROUGH THE DARK \nmore info: slaidcleavesbooking@gmail.com\nMore bio at slaid.com/bio \nOriginally hailing from Maine\, this now Austin songwriter might as well have been born in the lone state. Slaid Cleaves has the Austin style songwriting reminiscent of Joe Ely or Townes Van Zandt\, but a style and sound all his own. He sits permanently and high on the top of our favorite songwriters list. \nAmericana/folk stalwart Slaid Cleaves has been putting out highly acclaimed records for 25 years now\, consistently delivering songs that strike people’s hearts and become part of their lives. Together Through the Dark is no different. Producer Scrappy Jud Newcomb and Cleaves teamed up for the third time in early 2022 between Covid surges to record a new batch of songs\, Slaid’s first in five years. Familiar themes of struggle and resilience will be a surprise to no one. As Scrappy puts it\, “This album speaks to the hopeful\, the hard working\, the battered\, confused\, and the sad. But above all to the believers in the city of freedom that we heard in the stories of our youth and all those FM radio hits.” Watch for single releases to radio and streaming services in early 2023 in anticipation of a March 3rd worldwide album release.

SUMMARY:Cheryl Wheeler/Kenny White
DESCRIPTION:We are very excited to be able to reschedule a concert with Cheryl Wheeler and Kenny White. Let’s all come out and support her return to Peterborough. \nCheryl Wheeler \n“Cheryl Wheeler has to be seen to be appreciated. Nothing you read and nothing you hear from her albums prepares you for how good a performer she is. \n“If your idea of a folk singer/songwriter concert is a bunch of people clapping politely after songs\, and then sitting quietly while the performer says things like “This next song is about …”\, well\, you’ve never seen a Cheryl Wheeler concert before.  ” \n“Cheryl’s songs are often emotional portraits of people\, leaving you with the impression that you know the characters. You find yourself being dragged into the song rather than standing outside and observing. Other songs by Cheryl are hilarious situation comedies. \n“You may not be familiar with Cheryl\, but you have probably heard her music. She is very respected as a songwriter by her peers\, which can be seen by how many of them record her songs. Chery’s songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Dan Seals\, Peter Paul and Mary\, Kenny Loggins\, Garth Brooks\, Suzy Boggus\, Melanie\, Bette Midler\, Maura O’Connell\, Sylvia\, Kathy Mattea\, and Holly Near. If they think she is great\, then you owe it to yourself to learn more if you aren’t familiar with her. \n“From her albums you can tell that she is a gifted songwriter with a beautiful voice. From other people’s comments about her you can learn that she is a natural story teller with a fantastic sense of humor. But until you see her in person\, you never really believe what you’ve been told about her. Besides\, almost half of the songs she does during her shows haven’t been recorded!” \nCheryl’s concerts are more like what you would find at a comedy club than expect to find at a folk music concert. “She will tell a story that has you rolling in the aisles\, and then sing a song that leaves you wiping tears from your eyes. She will talk about some serious current event\, and then sing a song that will have you howling with laughter. Her entire concert is an emotional roller coaster.” \nhttp://www.cherylwheeler.com/home/bio.html \nKenny White \n“I’d have to say that Kenny White has earned a place among my favorite singer/songwriters … and particularly\, lyricists.  As we say in the trade ‘he goes deep.’   A true wordsmith AND musician who reveals a fine sense of humor\, as well. Put on your headphones and listen carefully.” \n…David Crosby \n“Kenny White is a quadruple threat – a singer\, songwriter\, pianist and producer with a knack for summing-up the human condition in half a song verse or less. (Take the lyrics “So you might as well put it on the line once in awhile\, Maybe leave something more than ashes in a pile\,” from his song “Five Girls.” Need we say more?”

SUMMARY:Saturday October 14th - An Evening with Ladies of Folk | $22
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Beth Barron.\n\nAllysen Callery is an internationally touring musician from Bristol\, Rhode Island. A self-taught artist\, she draws comparisons to Sandy Denny & Nick Drake. Winner of Favorite Folk Act in RI 2023\, and 2022 for Motif magazine.\n\nProvidence-based singer/songwriter Jane Hesser (a.k.a. Ground Weather) plays a gritty combination of soul-inspired indie and earthy\, wholehearted folk. She is half of the band LIGHTS OUT\, with John Kolodij. On occasion\, she can also be found playing with her daughters\, in The Understory and Freddy.\nMary Pierce\, Singer/Songwriter and recording artist of Celtic/Folk/American music shares her original and inspiring music through her 5 albums. Mary has been inspired by many Irish and American Folk artists and her passion for writing can be heard throughout her music. Mary started writing music 12 years ago after a visit to Ireland. She would often bring her songs to her sister\, Margi Gianquinto (pianist and harmonist)\, and the two would begin the journey together of adding harmonies and instrumentation to the songs. Mary and Margi have a unique sister vocal blend that has captivated audiences in Portsmouth\, Newport\, Narragansett\, Jamestown\, Maine\, and CT and they recorded the first album of originals together called ‘Miles Away’.\n\nSinger\, songwriter\, and guitarist Michelle Saylors\, was born in Tennessee\, where she grew up on a farm. Bluegrass\, country\, and gospel music were always part of life. Michelle began piano lessons around age 10. She is self-taught on guitar and mandolin and played mostly bluegrass music while in Tennessee. Living in Rhode Island since 2008\, Michelle found her voice by taking time in solitude: to write\, create\, and play music that reflects her early musical inspirations and keeps her true to who she is as an artist. Her songwriting is rooted in the space between small-town Tennessee and coastal New England. She is currently recording her first full-length album.\n\nJen Long’s father has a word for musicians: scallywags. Jen is delighted to have become one at last! Don’t tell her dad\, but she sings and plays guitar with SwampBirds\, a Providence based Americana-ish group for which she has written several songs – some of which they even play. Jen has also improvised vocals with the Providence band Cardboard Cannons\, sang for a decade with the Assembly of Light Choir\, and has organized many shows including four Love Hangovers. She especially loves writing melodies to other peoples’ poems. A designer by profession\, and artist to the core\, Jen is the creative and often obsessive energy behind The Whale Guitar\, a custom electric guitar inspired by Melville’s tale of an obsessive quest\, “Moby-Dick”. Jen has personally lugged this “instrument of change” to hundreds of guitarists to play and sign in an obsessive campaign to amplify the need for ocean protection and climate justice. Jen is grateful for the opportunity to play today for you but is starting to obsess over this bio\, so her therapist says she has to turn it in now as is. Thank you.

Winner of Favorite Folk Act in RI 2023\, and 2022 for Motif magazine. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary Pierce\, Singer/Songwriter and recording artist of Celtic/Folk/American music shares her original and inspiring music through her 5 albums. Mary has been inspired by many Irish and American Folk artists and her passion for writing can be heard throughout her music. Mary started writing music 12 years ago after a visit to Ireland. She would often bring her songs to her sister\, Margi Gianquinto (pianist and harmonist)\, and the two would begin the journey together of adding harmonies and instrumentation to the songs.\n\n\nSinger\, songwriter\, and guitarist Michelle Saylors\, was born in Tennessee\, where she grew up on a farm. Her songwriting is rooted in the space between small-town Tennessee and coastal New England.\n\n\nJen Long‘s father has a word for musicians: scallywags. She especially loves writing melodies to other peoples’ poems.\n\n  \n\n\nProvidence-based singer/songwriter Jane Hesser (a.k.a. Ground Weather) plays a gritty combination of soul-inspired indie and earthy\, wholehearted folk. She is half of the band LIGHTS OUT\, with John Kolodij. On occasion\, she can also be found playing with her daughters\, in The Understory and Freddy.
