SUMMARY:Stone Soup Coffeehouse Presents An Evening with Ladies of Folk
DESCRIPTION:Beth Barron is the founder of RI event\, “Ladies of Folk.” “Beth’s voice is smooth as silk with just the right amount of edge as she presents her original material during her solo acoustic guitar performances. Beth’s original songs are easy on the ears and plentiful on the mind.” Beth was also honored with Motif Magazine’s 2021 Music Video Award for her single “I’m Alive.”  Barron takes the listener on a journey through colorful lyrics and the soothing touch of her vocals. Beth will perform as the Beth Barron String Band. \nAllysen Callery is an internationally touring musician from Bristol\, Rhode Island. A self-taught artist\, she draws comparisons to Sandy Denny & Nick Drake. Winner of Favorite Folk Act in RI 2023\, and 2022 for Motif magazine. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary Pierce\, Singer/Songwriter and recording artist of Celtic/Folk/American music shares her original and inspiring music through her 5 albums. Mary has been inspired by many Irish and American Folk artists and her passion for writing can be heard throughout her music. Mary started writing music 12 years ago after a visit to Ireland. She would often bring her songs to her sister\, Margi Gianquinto (pianist and harmonist)\, and the two would begin the journey together of adding harmonies and instrumentation to the songs.\n\n\nSinger\, songwriter\, and guitarist Michelle Saylors\, was born in Tennessee\, where she grew up on a farm. Bluegrass\, country\, and gospel music were always part of life. Michelle began piano lessons around age 10. She is self-taught on guitar and mandolin and played mostly bluegrass music while in Tennessee. Living in Rhode Island since 2008\, Michelle found her voice by taking time in solitude: to write\, create\, and play music that reflects her early musical inspirations and keeps her true to who she is as an artist. Her songwriting is rooted in the space between small-town Tennessee and coastal New England.\n\n\nJen Long‘s father has a word for musicians: scallywags. Jen is delighted to have become one at last! Don’t tell her dad\, but she sings and plays guitar with SwampBirds\, a Providence based Americana-ish group for which she has written several songs – some of which they even play. Jen has also improvised vocals with the Providence band Cardboard Cannons\, sang for a decade with the Assembly of Light Choir\, and has organized many shows including four Love Hangovers. She especially loves writing melodies to other peoples’ poems.\n\n  \n\n\nProvidence-based singer/songwriter Jane Hesser (a.k.a. Ground Weather) plays a gritty combination of soul-inspired indie and earthy\, wholehearted folk. She is half of the band LIGHTS OUT\, with John Kolodij. On occasion\, she can also be found playing with her daughters\, in The Understory and Freddy.

SUMMARY:Rani Arbo and Daisy Mahem
DESCRIPTION:Rani Arbo and Daisy Mahyem were the PFM’s first concert in Bass Hall so many years ago. A sold out show. Don’t miss this long time in coming return concert. \n\n\n  \n…some of the most soul-lifting songs you’ll hear in your life…\npure magic happens when these four musicians play together. No Depression \n“Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem dig deep into their collective souls\, finding joy in the moment\, peace in the harmonies\, and rapture in the rhythmic drive.” — Hartford Courant \nHarmony\, rhythm\, indelible songs – these are the hallmarks of Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem\, the New England based folk quartet now in its 17th year. From the Newport Folk Festival to the California World Music Festival and beyond\, this band’s steadfast brew of wit\, camaraderie\, and musicality leaves audiences everywhere humming and hopeful\, spirits renewed. \nRani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem are Rani Arbo (fiddle\, guitar)\, Andrew Kinsey (bass\, banjo\, ukulele)\, Anand Nayak (electric and acoustic guitars) and Scott Kessel (percussion). At the helm\, Arbo is “blessed with an unmistakable voice\, both light and sultry\, with a hint of tremolo and smoke” (Acoustic Guitar). With Kinsey and Nayak’s vibrant baritones and Kessel’s resonant bass\, the band’s signature lockstep harmonies can shake the rafters or hush the room. Arbo’s fiddle is sweet and sinewy\, while Nayak’s guitar stretches across genre lines. Kinsey’s old- time bass anchors the deep groove of Kessel’s homemade percussion kit — a truly funky collection of cardboard boxes\, tin cans\, caulk tubes\, packing-tape tambourines\, bottle-cap rattles\, Mongolian jaw harps\, and a vinyl suitcase. \n\n\n\n\n\nmuch more at: https://www.raniarbo.com/

Ronstadt never lose their capacity to surprise. This progressive folk act combines uninhibited musical creativity and mastery with accessible story songs and an oddball sense of humor. Audiences will see and hear things done with a cello they never thought possible\, meandering stories as captivating as the music\, and hook-filled story songs that you’ll remember long after the lights come up. Guitarist/vocalist Nathans\, from the Philadelphia area\, is an award-winning leader in the Philly songwriting community. Cellist/vocalist Ronstadt\, nephew of Linda Ronstadt\, is a Cincinnati-based cello bandleader\, teacher\, touring artist\, and much in-demand studio sideman. \nAs an acoustic duo\, the two create a compelling musical palate. Ronstadt’s cello lines are reminiscent of the live-layered magic of Zoe Keating\, and his songwriting reflects the creative diversity of Paul Simon. He weaves intricate patterns around Nathans’ baritone voice\, studied folk meters and dash of irony in the tradition of David Wilcox and Dar Williams.

DESCRIPTION:QUOTES:\n“There is no tale so tall that I cannot tell it\, nor song so sweet that I cannot sing it.”\n…Guy Davis \n“Truth be told\, there just aren’t many who can deliver Americana in as interesting and entertaining a manner – or give acoustic traditional blues such a contemporary sound – as Davis….”\n…The Blues PowR Blog \n  \nBIO:\nGuy Davis is a two-time\, back-to-back Grammy nominee for Best Traditional Blues\, a musician\, actor\, author\, and songwriter. Guy uses a blend of Roots\, Blues\, Folk\, Rock\, Rap\, Spoken Word\, and World Music to comment on\, and address\, the frustrations of social injustice\, touching on historical events\, and common life struggles. His background in theater is pronounced through the lyrical storytelling of songs “God’s Gonna Make Things Over” about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre\, “Welcome to My World”\, and “Got Your Letter In My Pocket”. His storytelling is sometimes painful\, deep\, and real\, an earthy contrast to modern-day commercial music\, meant to create thought\, underlined by gentle tones from his guitar or banjo fingerpicking. \nGuy won “Keeping The Blues Alive” Award\, and was nominated by The Blues Foundation for Best Acoustic Album of the Year\, Best Acoustic Artist of the Year\, and Best Instrumentalist. In fact\, he’s been nominated nearly two dozen times by the Blues Foundation. \nAmong hundreds of newspaper appearances\, he’s also been featured in articles or reviews by New York Times\, Village Voice\, Boston Globe\, Pulse Magazine\, Blues Magazine\, Acoustic Guitar\, Dirty Linen\, Songlines\, Blues Blast Magazine\, Living Blues\, Down At the Crossroads\, The San Francisco Chronicle\, Association For Independent Music (formerly NAIRD)\, Playboy Magazine\, National Public Radio (NPR)\, “Folk Alley”\, and Sirius. \nWhen asked about his experience as a performer\, Guy has replied\, “There is no tale so tall that I cannot tell it\, nor song so sweet that I cannot sing it.” http://guydavis.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/GuyDavisBio-short2023.pdf \n  \nFor more: http://guydavis.com/wp/bio/

SUMMARY:The Kennedys
DESCRIPTION:After being incredibly cautious during the pandemic\, The Kennedys are really looking forward to being back at Bass Hall. We are thrilled to have them. Pete and Maura are one of the most popular duos on the circuit today. Tickets will sell quickly so don’t hesitate. \nThe Kennedys are an American folk-rock band\, consisting of husband and wife Pete and Maura Kennedy. They are recognized for their harmonies and instrumental prowess\, blending elements of country music\, bluegrass\, Western swing and janglepop. \nIn the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic\, and after losing more than 150 concert engagements for the rest of 2020/2021\, The Kennedys started a weekly\, all-request livestreaming show\, beginning on Sunday\, March 15\, 2020 at 2pm EST\, and running every Sunday at the same time. These shows were designed to provide an uplifting hour every week to everyone suffering through the pandemic. After the first several shows\, in which The Kennedys fielded real-time requests through the chat window\, emphasizing their desire to repeat as few songs as possible\, they then started including specialty shows\, paying tribute to some of their favorite musical influences such as Bob Dylan\, Buddy Holly\, The Everly Brothers\, John Lennon\, Nanci Griffith\, Patsy Cline\, The Byrds\, and a four-part Beatles mini-series. In addition\, they have presented hours dedicated to specific genres\, including the Summer of Love\, a Beach Party\, California Country Rock\, British Invasion\, and a Motown special. All of their weekly shows are archived on their YouTube channel’s Weekly Livestream Archive. \nOriginally based in Austin\, Texas\, they spent a few years in the Washington DC area before moving to the East Village in New York City\, where they have been based for most of the last two decades. The Kennedys are known nationwide as the hosts of the late lamented Dharma Café program on Sirius Satellite Radio\, and on Broadway\, they are regular cast members of Theatre Within’s annual tribute to John Lennon — working in that capacity with Patti Smith\, Debbie Harry\, Jackson Browne\, Cyndi Lauper and a host of others. \nLife on the road and time spent in the creative ecosystem of the Village have informed their songwriting over the course of 14 duo albums and half a dozen side projects\, and Safe Until Tomorrow is true to that tradition. What sets the album apart is the inclusion of several anthemic\, rocking songs of social consciousness that convey a strong message best summed up in one of the song titles: “Be Silent No More.” The Kennedys’ music has been described as uplifting\, empowering and encouraging. In these turbulent times\, they rise to the occasion with Safe Until Tomorrow \nMuch more at http://www.kennedysmusic.com

If the weather is horrid\, we will move indoors and capacity will be limited to 30. The suggested contribution is $20\, payable at the door by cash\, check\, or Venmo. Send email to whalecoveproductions@gmail.com to get more information or to make a reservation. \nJon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter who’s been turning heads for years with his words\, his fiery acoustic guitar work\, and his evolved musical style – combining improvised piedmont blues with bluegrass\, swing\, and ragtime. He is the 2019 winner of the International Blues Challenge in the solo/duo category. Shain’s most recent solo disc\, Gettin’ Handy with the Blues: A Tribute to the Legacy of WC Handy\, was released in 2018 and is soon to come out as a music book published by Mel Bay. Shain’s latest releases recorded along with long-time collaborator FJ Ventre are the  gorgeous roots album\, Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday Soon (2019) and Never Found  Way to Tame the Blues (2021). \nJon grew up in Haverhill\, Massachusetts\, a Merrimack River mill-town that had already seen its better days by the time he was a child in the 1970s. His family’s business was a small textile dyeing company\, and he worked in the factory during the summers throughout his teens. At the same time\, Shain began to discover his love of American roots music and songwriting\, specifically drawn to the narratives about regular people and themes of social justice. \nJon will be accompanied by harmonica wizard Bill Newton for this concert.
