SUMMARY:Open Mic Night at The Music Mansion
DESCRIPTION:Over the last couple years we have tried a lot of things on our open mic stage. In Season 42\, we held workshops for developing musicians. in Season 43\, we invited hosts of other open mics around the state to feature on our stage. We trained new sound engineers only to forgo all the tech. It’s now musicians and audiences in a room together – a room designed for music to flow and flourish. \nEd Dean returns as our open mic host\, opening the doors to The Music Mansion. It’s a welcoming environment for beginners\, new artists\, and veteran local musicians. The Open Mic Series is one of the ways we practice what we preach and Ed is an  incredible minister for this community. Hope to see you there.

SUMMARY:The Lindsays - Coffeehouse with Mini Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:With influences from all across the board\, The Lindsays have been described as an eclectic mix of music Irish\, Folk and beyond!  The band has had different line-ups with Stephen Lindsay being the constant on vocals and guitar\, having grown up in Dublin with ballads and tunes\, taking influences from Christy Moore\, Wally Page\, The Dubliners\, The Furey Brothers\, Wolfe Tones\, Jim McCann\, The Pogues\, Bob Dylan\, John Prine and others.  Playing with a strong rhythm driving style\, Stephen sings with emotion and heartfelt delivery.  From Bristol RI\, with a bluegrass background\, Ted Mello plays upright bass and backing vocals\, bringing much ambiance to the trio.  Katy Boc Nickerson plays exquisite fiddle\, adding her unique style to the songs and ballads while also paying attention to the Irish tradition with sets of jigs\, reels\, horn pipe and an occasional slow air.  Together The Lindsays make up a powerful pulse of music that will move you\, letting the lyrics linger a little longer or breaking out to dance a few steps!

SUMMARY:Margaret Ferri Coffeehouse Feature with Mini Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:A musician whose inspiration to play guitar was Buffy St. Marie’s ‘Until It’s Time for You to Go’ Margaret Ferri’s roots are in folk music and lyrics are her passion!  She covers Bob Dylan\, Paul Simon\, James Taylor\, Joni Mitchell and many others.  She says\, “I play songs that speak to me and my life’s experiences. The emotions you hear in the songs are deep and real.”  Margaret has dedicated her ‘life in music’ to ensure that excellent songwriting from the past is not forgotten and her audience reacts with smiles and positive energy when they hear a song they love. SUMMARY:Tom Smith - Coffeehouse Feature with Mini Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:“Tom Smith is a songwriter’s songwriter\, a story teller through stage banter and song with a genuine sincerity and love for what he does that shines through in every lyric\, chord and spoken word. His instrumental style and delivery are spot on and Tom always leaves the crowd better for being there.” – Tom Bianchi\, Musician and venue host\, The Burren\, Somerville\, MA.  Tom Smith’s songs are in turns humorous\, touching\, thought provoking\, and inspiring. Deeply rooted in the old-school folk tradition\, his timeless stories are told with a voice that is honest and sincere.  Tom grew up in rural Pennsylvania in a family where music was part of the fabric of everyday life. As a young man living at the epicenter of the folk-quake that was Cambridge\, MA in the 1960’s\, Tom solidified what has become a life-long love of self-made music. In the words of noted WUMB-FM Boston radio DJ\, Dave Palmater … “There are very few songwriters working today that I would call folksingers\, but I would call Tom Smith a true folksinger.”

SUMMARY:Putnam Murdock Coffeehouse - Karen Woodhall and David Jackson Open and Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:Feature – Putnam Murdock \nSteeped in old-time folk\, country and blues\, Putnam Murdock’s songwriting presents an honest voice of Americana music.  As a one-man band or a full ensemble\, the intimacy remains obvious in either his contemporary sonic collages or his classic ballads. His fourth studio release\, Long Time to Make Old Friends showcases songs penned with his co-songwriting partner and mentor\, Reed Foehl.\nAfter graduating with a songwriting degree from Berklee School in Music in 2002\, Murdock launched a solo career\, traveling the country.  As a songwriter he earned an honorable mention from the International Songwriting Competition for ‘Jersey Whiskey’ as well as having his debut record Fiction on the official ballot for the Grammys in five categories.\nPutnam has co-written songs that have appeared in the television shows Joan of Arcadia\, Dawsons Creek\, MTV’s Made\, and The Biggest Loser. The song ‘When it Comes Around’ was part of the movie sound track for Just Friends. He’s performed as a session musician on several Ken Burns documentaries including The Mayo Clinic with Bill Frisell and The Roosevelts:  An Intimate History.  Recently\, Murdock worked with the Ewers Brothers Film team to create music for the Mental Health Series which debuted on PBS in 2022.\nOpener – Karen Woodhall and David Jackson \n         Karen Woodhall does it all – contemporary folk\, with blues\, country and pop standards mixed in. Sometimes described vocally as “little-mama blues with a light brass to her sass\,” Karen brings a refreshing and joyful approach to her music\, with a natural and unassuming style that’s easy and accessible.  Karen is ably accompanied by David Jackson\, on guitar.\n         David Jackson plays in an energetic\, percussive style\, especially on his originals.  He collaborates with others or borrows from the great American songbook\, traditional\, old-time country\, folk\, swing\, fiddle tunes and blues.  David plays from all these influences\, ever cognizant of and grateful to carry the songs on as they`ve been passed on to him.  Together Karen Woodhall and David Jackson will open evening with their down-home style and musings.\n\nWe end the evening with a mini open mic – 8 slots. Doors open at 630p for sign-ups\, show starts at 7p.\n\n\nMembers and Performers:  $8\,  Non-members:  $9\nTickets in Advance – ‘Register’ at www.ssfmc.org\nRefreshments available \nADA Compliant
